Partial source: Wrestling Observer

– The Undertaker is expected to retain the World Heavyweight Championship through the Royal Rumble, at which point he will drop the title to Batista.

There has been talk of running the match at WWE’s annual January pay-per-view spectacular with Batista heading into WrestleMania with the belt.

Undertaker will be defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Big Show and Chris Jericho in a Triple Threat Match at this Sunday’s Survivor Series pay-per-view. Given the company’s long-term plans, it’s pretty much a lock that the Deadman will retain his belt this Sunday.

    i agree with wwe plans

  • Ryan

But i guess that is why teenagers of today feel like todays product is boring because they grew up as kids during the attitude era where it was already edgy for them and stuff and were used to that and it going to PG it is basically going backwards for them wherears when i was a kid it was the 80’s and so it followed to an upgrade with teh attitude era. And now that I’m basically somewhat an adult (25) i can understand why they did such a thing to their product.

  • Ryan

i mean many of agree on that John Cena is basically “Hulkamania 2000.”

So who knows, perhaps in the mid-2010’s they are going to have Cena do what Hogan did when he did the unthinkable. (Turn into a mega heel and ran NwO)

And perhaps during that time, TNA will finally become legit competition (doubt it) and will become what WWE became since WWE would be the WCW this time around. But who knows, no one here can say they can see into the future.

  • Ryan

As for Big Show being a jobber to the celebrity of the week, it doesn’t hurt his character at all since it is BASED on trying to be “comedy entertaining” and it is for the younger audience to enjoy.

I hate the fact that people shat on WWE being PG and all that when in the 80’s they had gimmicks up the whazzooo and CATERED to the kids moreso than they do today and no one talks down on that fact, but yet in todays world, oh no that is just so wrong for WWE to do even though it is the kids they want to be into the business because that is where the money comes in and that is how they did it with people such as me who grew up as a kid in the 80’s and concentrated on us and in order to keep us intact with them they got a little more edgy to follow us and then of course most of us became adults and have responsibility with our money handling that they had to go back down to the next young generation and do the same process over again.

Now the 80’s gimmick cartoony thing lasted throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. This new thing with John Cena started mid-2000’s, so there is a good chance things will become edgy again by the mid-late 2010’s.

  • Ryan

Bottom Line is. Its shown even back in the 80’s that it is basically a tradition in WWE where they have celebrities go over the heel, or make the heel look like a fool in front of the celebrity unless they make the celebrity come out as portraying a heel.

  • Ryan

U do know that it has been a staple where the celebrities are seen in a better light than the heels right? Save for Pete Rose of course. But he made himself a heel and it was ok for Kane to tombstone him and made for a few entertaining moments.

I mean you had Mike Tyson knock out HBK (no one cares)
I have no idea why people cared that Rourke knocked out Jericho. YOu do realize that Rourke was a boxer and had a very good record and he was trained in fighting by a Hells Angel. People rarely mess with a guy that is part of the Hells Angels.

And Jericho didn’t have his “best at what I do” until way after Wrestlemania.

And you can’t blame WWE yet again due to Rourke’s people telling him that it would be a bad move for him to get in the ring in that type of light when he was in the running for an academy award and they didn’t want mess up any chance of that really and so he opted out of it so they had to come up with something else. So that wasn’t what the original plan was all along for them to use him the way they did.

  • Matt

Yeah he has been, the thing I find unfortunate is that they build him up (and have done so on many previous occasions) only to have him job out to the WWE ‘celebrity of the week’ if you know what I mean.

I think in the long run it will hurt his character, then I’m not sure where he goes from that? back to mid-card for a rebuild only to have something similar happen at WM 2011 or what?

I’m just glad that Jericho has left the whole Mickey Rourke thing behind him, since in 60 seconds WWE turned a victory over legends (made all the more legit since Steamboat could still pull off one hell of a match after all these years and that would help facilitate the whole ‘I’m the best in the world at what I do’ character enhancement) into a joke by having an out of shape over the hill actor like Rourke ‘knock him out’.

Actually it was even worse since they showed Frank Shamrock sitting with Rourke to protect him in case Jericho tried shooting on him prior to the match/end segment.

  • Hassan

You know what, I like 80% of ryan’s card. I think the Main Event is great with Batista as heel. I thinks its awesome thats he’s heel now. and to build it up to wrestlemania with Cena its great.

I also like the idea of HHH and HBK. It would be sick of HBK finally turned heel on HHH after all these years. But im doubting it would happen because if you see the trend, Triple H has main evented the past like 8 wrestlemania’s, and in Phoenix Their is a big chance he will main event this year due to his big ego.

IMO, i think The legacy match should be a triple threat match for the WWE Championship. Yea Orton is Champion again, but it also gives a chance to make new stars in the likes of Rhodes and Dibiase. Cause they have been amazing through out the pat year and i really think they deserve it this year.

In all your card is good and I agree with your little “celebrity match” but their is one thing missing and that is Christan IS LEFT OUT! I mean this guy really deserves more than the ECW title, He should get more, at least a match man. But I like the Idea of Taker and Jericho cause Jericho is a great heal and it really fits him facing the Undertaker, i also suggest that jericho face the Big show, thats IMO. But in all, its Good.

  • Ryan

Well the plan was jericho vs. edge at wrestlemania but Edge went down with that injury. So who knows, maybe they will have Show take Edge’s place and we will have Jericho vs. Show.

Show has been great to say the least. And one thing that Vince and Co like about him is that he is basically a team player and if they ask him to do somethign with Shaq, he will do it.

Yea, but i don’t really see a Scramble match being a part of a Wrestlemania
    ___________________________________________________________

True, but It’s good to at least get them on the card, doesn’t need to be scramble match, I was just throwing it out there, fatal 4 way works fine, even at the time expense of a divas match which WWE seem to be having less of these days at big PPV’s, cause you know if there is a match it will be a filler piece with no actual wrestling of any kind, just a catfight that will just waste time that could be given to Taker v Jericho, MITB or HBK v anyone.

Also, I think that building Show up to a heel level where they’re showcasing his ‘1 punch knock out’ (for lack of a better term) and then having him job out to a random celebrity every Wrestlemania is a bit ridiculous, but then again this is WWE, with Akebono, then Mayweather, so prolly will happen, if not already feuding with someone.

  • baddog_1_2k

one of teh few fueds that are good and they can go back to is taker batista but batista at mania will likely be the rumble winner and maybe a suprise winner at that maybe a morrison or someone on that level

  • Ryan

Ok. THIS is my final card for Wrestlemania, and reasons behind them.

Here is how i would want the wrestlemania card to look like.

    Cena vs. Batista

(This should of already happened at least two years ago)

    HHH vs. HBK

(They have fought numerous of times but not once have they faced each other one-on-one at Wrestlemania, and neither men pinned or submitted the other in their triple threat with Benoit)

Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho (Like i said, their smackdown match was basically just a throw away match with really no build up aside from the triple threat storyline. Jericho has talked abotu has beens and people trying to come back to the spotlight. Imagine his character ripping on Undertaker that the time has come)

    CM Punk vs. Edge

(Sadly, Edge’s injury will more than likely make him miss Wrestlemania. Both are great heels, but since it is basically almost always a sure thing that when someone gets injured even if heel and is one of the top stars, they get welcomed by the fans with a face treatment. Punk can easily degrade Edge and go off saying that he is no longer the top man on Smackdown and that it is now PUnk’s spot)

Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Orton w/Cody Rhodes at his corner
(Just read and watch the whole Batista/HHH feud from the end of ’04 to ’05)

Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre vs. The Miz vs. Evan Bourne vs. Kofi vs. Matt Hardy vs. R-Truth vs. Kane (Money in the Bank with Morrison winning, hence building him up to become the new champion for the first time. Reason why Kane is in it is because he along with Shelton Benjamin are a staple to this match. Kane needs to be in it as he can always help build young stars, he helped pave way to the start of Punk’s great run this year by being the last that Punk had to get through to get the briefcase again, this time he can do it for Morrison)

    Big Show vs. Shaq

(Hey, we have to have our annual celebrity, so shut up. Though this time around with Wrestlemania, Shaq will more than likely be too busy and focus to try to win a title with James. Though I personally would like Big Show to be in a big type of storyline due to him being a major improvement since his return, but this match is more of what I’m thinking they might want to do for real)

Beth vs. Gail Kim vs. Natalya vs. Mickie James

    (Battle of the Best)

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jack Swagger (You can’t have Rey out of Wrestlemania, but don’t want him stuck in Money in the Bank. Though in real life he just may be injured once again and unable to compete. Jack Swagger needs to be part of Wrestlemania and i don’t want him in Money in the Bank either. Rey Mysterio’s job in this match is to be like HBK for Jack Swagger. And yes, i’d expect Jack to be part of Smackdown. Even right now I just don’t see him fitting in well on Raw. I mean he is in a small feud right now against another heel)

Christian vs. Yoshi Tatsu vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Regal (w/ Ezekiel and Vladimir in his corner)

(ECW Triple Threat Match. Reason why i won’t have Benjamin in Money in the Bank is because I want him if he isn’t ECW champion around this time to be champion coming out of Wrestlemania. I said Benjamin like Kane is a staple to Money in the Bank but Kane can always afford to lose in the match, but if Benjamin is going to be stuck in money in the bank matches and given how he always is and his lack of wanting to improve outside of the ring, he will never catapult. Though ECW champion is not really a thing you want in order to catapult yourself, at least he can be seen with one of the Big “3?” champions.)

And those are my ten matches i would like to see happen at Wrestlemania.

  • Ryan

    well…shouldn’t anyways.

  • Ryan

Yea, but i don’t really see a Scramble match being a part of a Wrestlemania

  • Matt

Well you left out ECW, so excluding MVP/Mark Henry & Tyson Kidd/DH Smith you could have the remaining in an ECW Championship Scramble Match or something of the like.

  • luckysalt

It will probably be the winner of the Royal Rumble facing Batista

  • Ryan

Perhaps HBK so Batista can feel he can have a great match and prove to the naysayers that he has the ability to have a great match.

Though he and Taker blew the roof off before at Wrestlemania.

And who knows, plans change a lot in WWE so we could still have Cena vs. Batista.

Here is how i would want the wrestlemania card look like

    Cena vs. Batista

HHH vs. HBK (They have fought numerous of times but not once have they faced each other one-on-one at Wrestlemania, and neither men pinned or submitted the other in their triple threat with Benoit)

    Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho

CM Punk vs. Edge (Sadly, Edge’s injury will more than likely make him miss Wrestlemania)

Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Orton w/Cody Rhodes at his corner

Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison vs. Drew McIntyre vs. The Miz vs. Evan Bourne vs. Kofi vs. Matt Hardy vs. R-Truth vs. Kane (Money in the Bank with Morrison winning, hence building him up to become the new champion for the first time)

Big Show vs. Shaq (Hey, we have to have our annual celebrity, so shut up)

Beth vs. Gail Kim vs. Natalya vs. Mickie James (Battle of the Best)

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jack Swagger

Though of course here comes the problem for WWE having such a big problem. Ones that are still left out of Wrestlemania

    -Christian
    -Regal
    -Fit Finlay
    -Yoshi Tatsu
    -Shelton Benjamin
    -MVP/Mark Henry
-Tyson Kidd/DH Smith…Pretty much tag teams in general

  • Valo487

    Probably Triple H. *shudders*

  • Zach

If Takers facing Cena at Mania who will Batista face?

  • Nolan

i completley agree with valo, the Punk/Taker feud had enourmous potential but they just threw it out

  • Valo487

Wow, Batista as champ, how exciting. Especially when he’ll probably have to drop the belt due to injury. I gotta say I’m pretty disappointed how they wasted the Punk/Taker feud, and if this report is accurate we’re building to Batista being half of the Wrestlemania main event for Smackdown. Seriously? That is what they came up with for the biggest show of the year?
