Survivor Series Headliner Reportedly Violated WWE’s Drug Policy

Evan Bourne’s suspension for his first violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program has generated a great deal of controversy amongst talent as some feel a double standard is in place.

Bourne, who’s real name is Matthew Korklan, was suspended for thirty days on November 1, 2011 after testing positive for Spice, a synthetic marijuana brand. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer reports Bourne and another wrestler higher up the card smoked the marijuana substitute drug at a party, yet he was the only one of the two to be suspended. The other wrestler was told he had failed for marijuana, which results in a $2,500 fine, as opposed to a thirty-day suspension for synthetic marijuana.

According to the Wrestling Globe Newsletter, the wrestler in question is a participant in tonight’s Survivor Series match featuring John Cena and The Rock against R-Truth and The Miz.

This has led to questions about whether WWE’s drug testing procedure is flawed or whether talent are treated differently depending on their status in the organization.

This would not be the first time in which WWE reprieved a top-level talent who had violated their Talent Wellness Program. On August 30, 2007, Sports Illustrated named Randy Orton as one of fourteen contracted and former WWE performers to have purchased pharmaceuticals from an online pharmacy (Signature Pharamacy), a violation of the Talent Wellness Program. Specifically, Orton received somatropin, nandrolone, stanozolol between September 2004 and February 2007, which occurred after the “no drugs from online sources” rule was instituted. However, Orton was the lone contracted performer not to be suspended by WWE. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer reported that WWE did not suspend Orton because he had already been suspended for a drug policy violation in August 2006, resulting in double jeopardy. The ruling, however, appeared nonsensical since Orton continued to receive pharmaceuticals following the suspension. WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt claimed last year in a letter to Irv Muchnick that “no action was taken against Randy Orton because he was not on any customer list for Signature Pharmacy ever provided to us by District Attorney Soares.”

I think it was The Miz.

@Tombstonepiledriver: Considering Rock’s a movie star, one would expect him to be on some better medicine.

I don’t know to me it just looks like somebody on the internet just fishing for a story. I mean they say the top guys in the WWE has never been pushed for getting caught with the Drug Policy. Does the name Jeff Hardy ring a bell his big push for the WWE title was suppose to happen around WM 24 put he fail the Drug Policy program an was out at WM 24 Ladder match which gave Punk his big break. To me WWE Drug Policy may not be all perfect but at least WWE is trying very hard to clean up there act when it comes to the junkies in pro wrestling.

@Tombstonepiledriver Thats the stupidest thing you have ever said!

  • Tombstonepiledriver

Well if it was the Rock then suddenly all of you would think it was cool and yall would all be smoking fake pot.

  • Stevie P

It could have been anyone. My guess is they didn’t want to mess up the Main Event of SS so they didn’t punish them.

Look guys spice is a bit different then you typical weed and Cena wouldn’t be smoking it to help his pain he would be smoking it to get a head change. I am probably going to say it was Cena because out of the 3 he is the untouchable one if it was Miz they wouldn’t have “reinstated” him a few weeks back.

  • Crocop

probably miz. truth is expendable. Cena, maybe, but he knows the stakes better than anyone.

  • Pissed Off Fan =(

If i had to take a while guess it was Miz. I dont think Rock would party with Evan and Cena, well Cena most doesnt need that stuff to help his pain since he doesnt do any high risk moves. I doubt Truth because, lets me honestly…WWE aint to hot with black people so he would have been out for the next 30 days. So y guess is MIZ! dont get me wrong i LOVE the miz but i feel like he might be a suck-up and since wwe thinks he the man by always sending him places and wearing a suit, what they want, he prob did it

  • Jake

Cena and Bourne are well known friends, and he has to be high thinking he is in the same league as the great one!!!!!! LOL

  • PinkSinCara

Truth got some spice from Lil Jimmy. But it’s a conspiracy. Don’t boo him, ya should be booin yaselves

  • D2K

LOL @ Jimbo. I know right? Batista called and said he wanted his body back.

  • J-Roc.

    Their policy is a joke.

  • Jimbo

As long as Mason Ryan is running around with that ‘roided up body and not being suspended, WWE’s Wellness Policy will always be a joke.

Blacks smoke weed out of tobacco leaves they get from the corner stores for a dollar, while whites buy expensive glass bongs filled with brita water to get a nice clean hit.

  • Statix901

It was spice, not weed. It had to be miz

  • mattnichollsFEAR

Truth cause he’s black. All black guys smoke weed right?

  • The mark

The Rock would never hang out at parties with Bourne. Truth is dispensable. So Miz or Cena.

  • its not cena, cuz kids dont know how to get it, anit the rock, its miz or truth,! let us know
