The Daily Spartan (005) – 2nd Quarter Power 15

It be time for the second quarter Power 15 rankings!  Screw the intro’s, it’s time for magic!

15. R-Truth – Love him or hate him, he’s one of the more popular superstars in the WWE today.  He had a slightly successful 21 day reign as United States Champion.  It ended on a low note, with his groin injury, but he has still carried a lot of momentum through the past three months.  Like I said love him or hate him(I hate him), he’s in the main event scene, and there are no signs of change for that to come.

14. Ted DiBiase (13) – Ted was essentially on fire towards the latter part of the first quarter, but a few stiff shots from Truth set him off track.  No worries for him, though, he’s found his cliché again since aligning himself with Maryse.  Fucking Maryse alone is enough to get him on this exclusive list, add his fairly impressive run as of late, and we’ve gotta winner here!

13. Big Show – Show started off as a ferocious bodyguard-ish heel, then after turning on Miz, upon losing the Unified Tag Titles, he turned into the friendly, loving giant we currently know.  He came close to dethroning Swagger, and has already successfully de-masked Punk, and Mercury.  Speaking of Punk…

12. CM Punk (9) – I seriously contemplated whether or not CM deserved on to even be included here due to his slaying by the midget.  In the end, though, this Punk has built one of the better stables in recent years, and continues to give stellar promos.  It’s hard to put him on here with his injury, and inability to beat midgets, but it’s that much harder to keep him off because he’s just an all around key superstar.

11. The Miz (11) – Miz would be number three this quarter had R-Truth not fucked over him, and cost him the WWE Championship last week.  Nevertheless, Unified Tag Team Champ, 2-time United States Champion, and Money in the Bank holder, keeps Miz afloat despite a slow and losing quarter.  Expect nothing but Top 5 from this fella in the third quarter.

10. Kofi Kingston – Kofi carried a shit load of momentum into 2010, and has coasted ever since.  The move to Smackdown, though, has breathed a breath of fresh air into Kofi’s character.  Essentially he’s been on fire.  Showing a more tense, and powerful side of him, which will be key in him becoming a main stay to the main event in the near-to-distant future…Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s the current Intercontinental Champion.

9. Evan Bourne – Sucking the cock of SuperCena has gotten the Bourne again superstar (see what I did there?!?!?) a long ways in the second quarter.  Sure, when his push started, I didn’t think all that highly of it, but hey, WWE has booked it very believable.  If they could only use this blueprint on Rey Rey.  Oh well, one can wish can’t he?

8. Edge (4) – Adam Copeland has been constantly in the WWE race since being drafted to Raw, yet has been very unsuccessful in doing really anything.  His spot here is warranted because he’s been a key player, despite nothing really sticking out about the whole thing.  I can’t really see him being near the third quarter rankings, unless he undergoes a slight character change, and gets himself a bit healthier.

7. Rey Mysterio – Let’s get something straight here: I don’t hate Rey Mysterio.  Sure, this column consists of a lot of Rey bashing, but hey, if he was booked a bit better, this wouldn’t happen, right?  Eh, who cares, this kid was World Heavyweight Champion for a full month, he also single handedly took down arguably the best wrestler on this planet at this time.  I doubt he’ll show up in the third quarter, since he’s long overdue for some knee surgery.

6. John Cena (2) – Can you say shocked?  I bet half of you mighty fine folks out there are surprised that CeNation is so low, especially after a decent run as WWE champion this quarter.  So what he had a good quarter, the fact remains, though, that five others had a better run than him.  Now, if he had turned heel this past Monday, then maybe it’d be a different story.  I’ll be waiting, and watching for his turn in the coming weeks.

5. The Nexus – Uhm, can I even speak to the volume for which Nexus’ impact has surfaced?  No, I do not think I can.  Wade Barrett has a guaranteed Title match.  Skip Sheffield, and Michael Tarver have almost guaranteed themselves shots at making it after this angle is over with the mastery they’ve worked with there characters.   Darren Young, and Heath Slater have done next to nothing to warrant anything beyond this angle.  David Otunga shows promise; promise that may need a few years to fully achieve.  And Justin Gabriel could very well be the high flying version of Chris Benoit once this whole thing blows over.  Needless to say, the Nexus as an entirety has garnered a shitton of interest, and have me glued to my television set every time they appear.  If your not Nexus,  your against us.

4. Kane – The best thing that can happen for Kane at this point is if he is revealed as NOT the killer of his brother.  I just can’t help but be scared that he will, though.  And if he is, well, it’ll will only spell the end for Glen Jacobs, probably ending in a Retirement Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at say Survivor Series.  Shame, eh?

3. Randy Orton (3) – Randy Motherfucking Orton.  I don’t know if I’ve professed this, ever, but Randy is my favorite wrestler.  I’ve been a huge fan of his since his first run as World Heavyweight Champ back in 2004.  Anyways, this cat has kept his rise to super facedom just a goin’.  He did lose a good bit of momentum during the month long stretch where he was out with a shoulder injury.  Yet, he is still getting that pop that bars only Cena’s.  I do, in fact, fear we may witness a fall off from The Vipor in the next quarter.  Don’t let me jinx him, but his shoulder is said to warranting surgery soon.  Hmm.

2. Jack Swagger (10) – I said during the last rankings that I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see Swag-tart jump to number one this quarter.  Well, I was half right, he jumped eight spots to number two.  Arguably if he hadn’t lost the World Championship to the giant slayer, I would have had a hard time NOT putting him number one.  He had a very successfully World title run, defeating the likes of Edge, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Big Show, and a few others.  Along the way he’s became one of the most over heels in the biz.  Also honing some pretty decent mic skills despite a lisp.

1. Sheamus (1) – Can one argue with him being place number one for the second quarter in a row?  No.  He’s been completely on fire.  To start the quarter off he was terrorizing the entire Raw roster, and patiently waiting his turn at the WWE title.  When he finally got his shot at Fatal 4Way, he ran with it literally.  Sure, if Nexus hadn’t interfered Sheamus may not be WWE champion right now, but he is.  And now he is headed into a hot feud with Orton.  I would almost wager a bet that Sheamus will be number one in the third quarter rankings too.

NEW ARRIVALS – R-Truth, Big Show, Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, Rey Mysterio, The Nexus, Kane

FALLEN OFF –  Shawn Michaels (15), Christian (14), Drew McIntyre (12), Batista (8), Undertaker (7), Triple H (6), Chris Jericho (5),
