Former WWE Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods and Big E (The New Day) appeared on the most recent edition of Talk is Jericho to talk about various topics such as their WWE careers, the group’s original gimmick and more. Down below is an excerpt in which they talk about Vince McMahon pitching the original idea for the gimmick.
“Vince chuckled, and nothing happened,” said Kofi Kingston. During their next meeting, Vince pitched the idea that New Day would be preachers.
“We didn’t want to sing and dance. We feel like for African-American athletes, you’re either singing and dancing, or you’re the big strong black guy, or you’re foreign,” said Xavier Woods.
