Twenty-two years ago today, The Rock (then Rocky Maivia) made his WWE debut at the 1996 Survivor Series pay-per-view in Madison Square Garden. Since then, the Great One has lived a career that only a few get to live and has tasted the success the likes of which you don’t get to see every day.
The Rock took to his Twitter handle to fondly remember his WWE debut and revealed some lesser known insider details about his first match. The Rock revealed that before he went out to the ring that night in ’96, he signed his first contract with the WWE wherein he’d be paid 150,000 USD per year.
An overnight, 22 year success lol.
*little inside fact, I had just signed my contract with @WWE backstage right before I went to the ring here in Madison Square Garden.
For $150k per year.
I also signed a separate contract with Chia Pet for my awful haircut 😂🤦🏽♂️ https://t.co/Sd1gITjYrK— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) November 18, 2018
Today, the Rock is one of the richest celebrities on the entire planet and arguably one of the most popular pro-wrestlers of all time.
