The Stockwell Superstar(s) of The Week – Legacy

Welcome back to The Stockwell Superstar of The Week, this week the superstars (and I do say superstars in plural intentionally) are none other then The Viper Randy Orton and his cohorts Legacy, comprising of Rhodes and DiBiase. Before I move on, I just want to draw attention to Kurt Angle’s recent interview on TNA regarding the current signing of Hulk Hogan, I discussed The Hulkster last week and most of you who read the article know my thoughts, but I just want to say that Angle was on the ball with his remarks. If you haven’t watched it then you can stream his interview on the TNA website and trust me, you can’t help but agree with the gold medalist.

Anyway, onto this weeks feature stars. Randy Orton as you know has just lost the WWE Title to SuperCena. Whilst this event can be looked upon badly (mainly because Cena’s title reigns have become so stale – refer to current Survivor Series Main Event for more info). However, I’m actually quite pleased that Cena has won the title and I’m even more thrilled that Orton is unable to challenge for the belt whilst Cena has it in his possession. Randy has without shadow of a doubt been the top heel of the WWE for a little over a year now. Y2J has been a better entertainer in general but there is no denying that for the most part, Orton has been nothing short of awesome. However, in recent months, it itself has become quite stale – mainly in part to his ongoing feud with the poster boy.

Why am I pleased with Cena holding the belt you may ask? Simple. With Orton currently unable to challenge for the belt and ‘once again’ go at it with Cena, it enables him to build himself up again. Feuding with Kofi has been a great start to the reconstruction of Randy and his future feud with Ted will no doubt assist in the process. Speaking of Ted, it is a shame that Legacy are disbanding because the duo have really started to come into stride. However, Cody should be pleased that he wasn’t in the movie because of the two Legacy members, Cody has no defined character and if he were to leave now, he would undoubtedly get lost within the fray much like he did a year or so ago with Hardcore Holly.

DiBiase is lucky in that he already has a gimmick that is proven. His father and JBL are proof of this. What makes Ted Junior particularly interesting though is that once he breaks away from Legacy and gets over his expected face run, he has a tried and tested heel role to step into and one that is perfect for the current market. The current world is full of young people with no talent who live the high life with the money of their parents – look no further then the talentless Paris Hilton. So whilst, Mini Ted is stepping into the already worn role, he does so with a new twist in that unlike the orginal Million Dollar Man and JBL, he hasn’t earned his money. As MVP mocked this week, it’s his “Daddy’s Money”.

Obviously, he won’t work as well on Raw with Randy and Cody still present so a move to Smackdown in the near future could prove to be the start of something special for the young star.

Talking of young stars, Legacy does indeed have another. Unlike Ted though, Rhodes (as previously mentioned) really doesn’t have a defined character to step into yet so for the time being, it would be more beneficial for the young star to stay with Randy to enable him to develop his role within the company. As for the stable itself, as many of you know, it wouldn’t work as well with just Orton and Rhodes, we need another member to increase the threat of this group. Whilst few think Swagger may step into the role, I think why? Yes he is perfect in terms of what he can do in the future and a rub from Orton would do him well, but he lacks one key piece of criteria – a wrestling father. If anything, Swagger would be better teaming with DiBiase on Smackdown – not only would it benefit him more by being on the show rather then Raw but the two could work together occasionally with Swaggers Financial Degree being a common ground for the two. This then poses the question of who could step into Legacy to fill the void left by Ted.

Let’s think… Who are exciting young stars who are in fact from a wrestling family? Of course… The Hart Dynasty.

The Dynasty would in fact be a much better fit to Orton’s group then Ted could have ever been. Coming from the dungeon they have much more weight behind their names and the fact that they are a female and a tag team would work well. It would give Rhodes the chance to expand and go for the US Title while they attempt to win the tag titles and Diva’s title respectively. Plus, a much larger group that holds all the gold would be more of a threat then 3 men with only a select number of titles.

Of course, this is all wishful thinking. Expanding on these characters and giving Orton time to reconstruct his character before winning the title again is very unlikely to happen. In the more likely case, Orton will somehow get another Cena match to continue the shit feud we’ve been getting for the better part of the last three years and Rhodes will get lost and eventually (much further down the line of course) get fired because creative has nothing for him. Ted should be fine though.

Tune in next week for a special Survivor Series Edition of The Stockwell Superstar. Until then…..
