The Truth: SummerSlam Review, More or Less

I have a few post SummerSlam thoughts, I didn’t order the show but I wanna give a quick heads up to Terrell 076 I think it was on u stream for making it available to so many of us. There were some good things on the show, couldn’t always tell what was going on as in some cases the screen was blocked or the audio wasn’t synced but the beginning part on u stream came in great along with the end so I wanna touch on a few key parts of the show.

The first thing was Kofi vs Dolph Ziggler for the IC title, seemed like there was a decent pace to the match some good action but I have to say that Nexus interfering at the end really played well. Crowd had a great reaction, which I gotta say played a major part in the show for me. If you wonder about a crowd impact, go back and watch Rock vs. Hogan from WM 18 and see how vital the Toronto crowd was to that match. But a nice twist on the end to help set the tone for the show, also gives some flexibility to let the Kingston vs. Ziggler feud play out more. Good so far.

Next was the divas match and that was the time I took a food break, looks like Melina won, that could be good, I did come down for LayCools interruption and even then it went on long. Anyway, moving on to the Big Show match, didn’t really get alot out of it from what I paid attention, Big Show went over as I figured he might, not much else to say on it. I believe this was the point where the Miz came out gave a nice heel promo, unfortunately at this was also the time the stream went down for a short while but I don’t recall the Miz sticking around at ringside for the WWE Championship match, I haven’t read a detailed result yet so maybe someone could comment on that for me.

Unfortunately this was the point in the show which I spent a great deal of time searching for another link to watch the show, which is the price you pay when watching it for free but for not having high expectations, saving 54 bucks aint all that bad either. But the part of Orton vs. Sheamus I did get to see had a lot of action, a few good false finishes and a lot of anticipation amongst the audience. I really didn’t know which way this match would go but I think a DQ finish here with Sheamus retaining was a safe decision that will not only help continue this feud, which really has the potential to get better as it goes along but it didn’t seem to take away from the momentum of the show either.

I came back in time to see Kane finishing off Rey Mysterio for the victory, the match didn’t seem to take very long from what I can tell and based on their history in the past that’s probably not a bad thing. All the hype was of course after the match, starting with the first time Kane opened the casket and it was empty. While I believe the segment overall was well done, it seemed a little too obvious when Kane went out of his way to close the casket that Taker would indeed be in there the second time he went to open it. Taker played the build up well of who he was gonna attack then once he chose Kane everything was great but the air got let out of the tires somewhat when Kane dominated Taker so easily with a choke slam. It certainly wasn’t what the crowed expected from the phenom. While there was a bit of a letdown amongst myself and the crowd with that turn of events, I will say that it makes sense storyline wise for Kane to be the more dominant one and Takers overall strength now comes into question in the weeks to come.

Ok onto the main event,I am proud to say this match I was able to watch in HD with full audio from start to finish. The first piece of business was taken care of when the Miz came out as the apparent 7th member of team WWE only to be told by John Cena that he wasn’t needed and that Daniel Bryan was the replacement. So excited about this decision, Rob again you called it, this just makes so much sense, was well timed and executed and oh yeah he just happened to steal the match as well. So many different things could be expected coming in, match got off to a solid start, few early eliminations on Nexus, Tarver and Young, followed by Morrison and Truth being eliminated by Skip Sheffield who I really like what they are doing with him going forward.

There was some decent back and forth action but several of the eliminations were too close back to back for my liking, not really giving the audience time to react. While they were too fast, the eliminations of Edge and Jericho played out well, basically turning their back on Team WWE and Cena going forward.(almost makes you wonder what the whole point was) After a few more eliminations it was down to Barrett and Gabriel vs Bryan and Cena, at which point the Miz made his presence felt by eliminating Daniel Bryan with his briefcase. Really good as this sets up perfectly for a feud between the Miz and Bryan in which the Miz may very likely drop his US title. After this is where it got kind of dull, after Cena was knocked out of the ring once or twice, the beat down by Nexus just seemed to king of drag on with no end in sight. Of course miraculously Super Cena made his comeback after being destroyed for quite some time and quickly turned the tables and eliminate both members of Nexus as if he had never been hurt.

Okay I get where they are going with Cenas superhero character but the ending fell flat in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I am not 12 years old but if Team WWE was gonna win that just didn’t seem like the way to do it. It made so much more sense to me for Nexus to win, particularly if their leader was revealed as anticipated. Overall it was a decent show from what I got to see, nothing I would have been happy about paying 50 bucks for. There is some good possibilities going forward, which is always important aspect of a PPV.

Let me know what your thoughts were of the show and those of you who purchased, Was It Worth It?
