Thunder’s Take: TNA Victory Road 2012: Thoughts And Predictions

Here are my predictions for Victory Road tomorrow night. I’ll be watching a live stream and hoping it works for the entire show. I’m not a huge fan of Impact Wrestling but I do follow it. I’ll keep this fairly short for that reason.

Television Champion Robbie E has an open challenge: I’m not sure who Robbie E will face, but I expect him to keep his title unless he goes against a really big name(Rob Van Dam anybody?). Regardless of the opponent, with Robbie E. you know you’ll be entertained.

Knockouts Championship Match
Gail Kim (c) vs. Madison Rayne – A knockouts match worth watching! These ladies always give a good showing and I predict Gail Kim to keep her title in a contest that promises to be more entertaining than anything we get from females in wrestling on Mondays and Fridays.

AJ Styles & Mr. Anderson vs. Christopher Daniels & Kazarian – With Daniels and Styles, they work magic in the ring together. That said, I’ve seen enough. These guys built TNA Wrestling into what it is today. Now they need to move on to something new. They won’t. We’re just going to keep getting stuck with more versions of the same feud with these two. I’m sick of it. Anderson brings a new element to this feud because he’s a great wrestler with an entertaining personality. I can’t wait to see him wrestle Bobby Roode down the road. I expect Daniels and Kazarian to be booked to win so that this rivalry can continue into Lockdown next month.

World Tag Team Championship
Samoa Joe & Magnus vs. Matt Morgan & Crimson – Officials seem to think booking Samoa Joe in tag team matches when they have nothing else for him is the right direction to go. I’m not sure I agree with them. Matt Morgan annoys me when he talks. Crimson can wrestle, but we hardly ever get to see that. Magnus looks like a guy Vince McMahon would want to sign. I expect Morgan and Crimson to win this round, but I don’t think this will be the last time or even the second to last time we see these four in the ring together.

Bully Ray vs. “Cowboy” James Storm – Bully Ray has won me over in terms of his talent and popularity as a singles wrestler. He almost had to reinvent himself a little bit but it has worked wonders for his career. I expect him to win this match and claim that he deserves to be number one contender. This will make Storm and Roode’s match at Lockdown into a three way match for the title. Storm is another one of those guys that has built the company(AMW in case you forget) and deserves to be featured more. I expect this match to be a straight up brawl with Bully Ray picking up the win.

“The Charismatic Enigma” Jeff Hardy v. Kurt Angle – Kurt may or may not carry this match, but I expect this match to show exactly what Jeff Hardy can do in terms of wrestling. Kurt is usually pretty good at making even the worst opponents look good(Shane McMahon, anybody?), and this match should be a breeze for him as Hardy is loaded with natural talent. For storyline purposes, I’d like to see Hardy win the match(possibly with some Garrett Bischoff interference) and maybe keep the rivalry going for at least one more pay per view.

X Division Championship Match
Austin Aries (c) vs. Zema Ion – Austin Aries is loaded with talent. Zema Ion appears to be wreckless in his matches. Is this an act or is it his actual style? Either way, Aries will make this match fantastic with or without Ion’s help. Taking the title off Aries this soon would be a mistake, unless they were going to move him into the World Title picture already. I don’t see that happening. I expect this to be the match of the night(or second to Angle/Hardy depending) and I think Aries will retain the title.

No Holds Barred
“THE ICON” STING vs. WORLD CHAMPION BOBBY ROODE – This match isn’t for the title. This match is about respect. Bobby Roode does not need to beat Sting to be a star. Beating Sting is just something to add to the resume of our World Champion. Bobby Roode has become one of the best heels in the business, and I’m hoping his popularity becomes more widespread if TNA ever seriously expands. Sting is old. Sting can work a decent match, but Sting cannot work the great matches he once was capable of having. I predict Bobby Roode will use some sort of heel tactic to win this match(shocking, I know).

What I like about TNA is they always book a full card and you know what you’re going to get. What I don’t like about TNA is the full card always feels very familiar like we’ve seen it before. I don’t expect this show to be above average, but I’ll be watching for the Ray/Storm, X Division Title match, and Bobby Roode main event. I’ll be back with my WrestleMania top matches column before Raw on Monday. Until next time, this has been Thunder’s take!
