ThunderStruck: WWE Battleground Preview

Pre Show Match: Damien Sandow vs Dolph Ziggler

JT: Kickoff match? Really? Really? Garbage aside, these two can give us a 3-3 1/2 star match that is fairly entertaining. This could easily be a World Title match with the talent of these two and I’m damn sure people would be more interested in this than the current World Title feud.

Kofi Kingston vs Bray Wyatt

JT: These guys should give us something fresh, and I honestly think Kofi could get the big win here as long as the Wyatts can beat him down after the match per their usual routine. Should be interesting to watch!

Divas Championship: Brie Bella vs AJ Lee

JT: AJ has had a great run, but lately all the focus has been on Brie. I’m expecting Brie to walk away with the gold as the only definite title change(with the exception of the WWE Title for obvious reasons) on the show. Should be a decent match worth watching.

Intercontinental Championship: Curtis Axel w/Paul Heyman vs R-Truth

JT: Potential for an excellent matchup here, but I don’t expect it to get enough time and I don’t expect it to be nearly as competitive as it should be booked. Axel will end up retaining the gold, and I sense the end of his relationship with Paul Heyman is coming. Perhaps we could see the start of that here with Heyman’s lack of support?

Goldust and Cody Rhodes w/Dusty Rhodes vs Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns

JT: This match is actually the one I’m most looking forward to(only because I expect Dbry and Orton to NEVER top the fantastic match they once had on Raw). The dynamic of Rhodes and Goldust just excites me when it comes to working with the talent of Rollins and Reigns. The match has classic written all over it. I’m predicting the Shield to come out with the win only because I don’t see the age of Goldust helping here.

Ryback w/Paul Heyman vs CM Punk

JT: Their best match was the TLC match, and it wasn’t very good. Ryback in the total package just outright sucks, but I’m TRYING so hard to remain optimistic. Punk might be able to make a brawl style somewhat watchable. I just hope Punk doesn’t get injured. I’m looking at a DQ victory for Punk only because I don’t think they’ll let him pin Ryback clean and they don’t want to kill Punk’s momentum with a Ryback win.

Battleground Hardcore Rules Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Rob Van Dam w/Ricardo Rodriguez vs Alberto Del Rio(c)

JT: This one doesn’t hold much intrigue for me. RVD isn’t going to have any lengthy reign, and WWE seems to think the heel version of Del Rio is what they need for a World Champion right now. I disagree, but what do I know? This one won’t top anything they’ve done already in he ring and it won’t even be one of the three best matches of the night. Del Rio retains and possibly rejoins forces with Ricardo.

WWE Championship: Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan

JT: The match they had on Raw(I believe it was no holds barred or a street fight) is something I don’t believe these two can top, and that’s why I’m not overly interested in how this match goes down. Dbry SHOULD come out as champ here, but I could see WWE going either way. Look for this to close the show(again obviously) and for an interrupted finish.

The card on paper isn’t anything exceptional, but I think as a whole the show will deliver on par with what we saw from Extreme Rules. There’s a rumored dance off for Fandango and a potential six man tag with the Wyatt Family taking on the Usos and Kofi instead of the one on one match, and I honestly think either one of those could contribute to the overall card. Thanks for reading!
