ThunderStruck: WWE NXT Analysis 01/08/15

Sami Zayn opens the show with a promo about being the best now that he’s NXT Champion. Adrian Neville comes down and wants his rematch. William Regal comes out and announces the rematch for next week!

^Zayn was passionate in his promo and you could tell he was shooting straight from the heart. I really enjoyed listening to this hard working young man as he shared his enthusiasm about being at the top of NXT. I welcome a Zayn/Neville rematch as they ALWAYS deliver something special when they square off.

Hideo Atami takes on Curtis Axel. Atami hits Axel with a spin kick when he’s on one knee and gets the three count in just under five minutes.

^A lot of really great ground work and physicality by Axel in this match. Axel really dominated a lot of this match and stayed in control until the final minute. Atami took over and hit some nice kicks and spots, and that finish was solid. I want to see these two get fifteen minutes so we can something a little less basic.

Byron Saxton interviews Natalya and Tyson Kidd backstage. They argue a bit and Tyson sends her away to check on their sick cats. Kidd talks about not looking past Finn Balor next week, but says he is looking past him to the NXT Championship.

^Tyson Kidd is absolutely awful on promos. This is the reason he can’t ever be a main event guy despite his talent. He just sounds so annoying when he talks.

Alexa Bliss takes on Sasha Banks(with Becky Lynch in her corner). Banks wins the match with a backstabber into a crossface submission where Lynch taps out. The move is called the Banks Statement(fun play on words, eh?)

^Sasha Banks is insanely physical in the ring. What Banks might bring to the main roster for aggression and brutality could potentially turn the WWE Divas Division upside down. Loved this short match.

Tyler Breeze is back in action next and he’s taking on an enhancement talent named Chad Gable. Breeze makes quick work of the jobber winning the match with the beauty shot.

^Tyler Breeze has a lot of potential to be a star on the main roster. He definitely has that Chris Jericho style mixed with an HBK-like look. I’m not saying Breeze will amount to anything compared to those two, but all the pieces seem to be there for this guy and I could see him as a star on Raw and Smackdown. Gable had some support from the crowd, so I suspect he’s someone we haven’t seen the last of.

Finn Balor is interviewed backstage and says he’s looked up to Tyson Kidd his whole career and can’t wait to go one on one with him next week.

The Vaudevillains challenge the Lucha Dragons for the NXT Tag Team Titles in our main event. The Lucha Dragons retain their titles in a back and forth ten minute match. Kalisto pins English for the win with a fancy double team maneuver.

^These guys make a tag team match a whole lot of fun. Loved this main event tonight with the Dragons coming out on top. I like watching the Villains chase the titles like this; they’ve got talent and they will have to really earn those belts.

Zayn’s opening promo was filled with emotional and highly enjoyable. Atami and Axel teased us with that they can do and it was solid. Sasha Banks showed us why she is Boston-Strong in a quick match, Tyler Breeze returned, and that main event was a blast. It’s an 8 out of 10 show for me.
