ThunderStruck: WWE NXT Analysis 02/18/15

New NXT Champion Kevin Owens cuts a promo to start the show. He says he’ll take on anyone at anytime and that Finn Balor can just name the date for his title shot. Owens says you may not like how he did it, but he did it.

^That’s about what I was expecting. Owens is a man of few, but very logical and straight forward words. His reign as NXT Champion should be unforgettable. It’s hard to argue with his instant success.

Rhyno returns to take on Elias Sampson. He squashes him.

^I’ve always liked Rhyno, and he could probably help out a lot of the younger talent down in Florida. I’m surprised to see him back in WWE when they seem to be more about pushing fresh talent, but I’m also not complaining as the War Machine tends to give us something worth watching nearly every time he sets foot in the ring.

Finn Balor is interviewed backstage. He says he fights for the NXT Championship and then Rhyno walks through to stare him down.

^That could be a potentially exciting matchup in the future. Balor brings out the best in nearly every opponent that I’ve seen him encounter.

Big Cass and Enzo Amore defeat Aiden English and Simon Gotch in an incredibly short match. Cass and Enzo do their promo before the match with Carmella and they get confronted on the big screen by Blake and Murphy after the match.

^Cass and Amore are not legitimate contenders. Their rap was fun the first few times I heard it, but now it hasn’t changed and it’s gotten old fast. Murphy and Blake will make them look silly, but Murphy and Blake still have a lot to prove with just three wins under their belt since their push began.

CJ Parker comes out to hold NXT hostage, but Solomon Crowe debuts and attacks him.

^Solomon Crowe was Sami Callahan on the independent circuit and he was a top guy. I don’t know what he’ll become in NXT, but his hacker interruptions were semi-original and his attack on Parker wasn’t terrible. Now we just need to see him compete; I’d speculate his first official match to be a CJ Parker squash.

Blue Pants takes on Sasha Banks. Banks beats her in a short match. Banks cuts a promo about being the baddest diva in NXT.

^Good ole Blue Pants. Sasha was put over as the new champion and being one tough woman, and both goals were accomplished in this one. Short and sweet!

Kevin Owens defeats Adrian Neville in just over twelve minutes with the pop up powerbomb. Owens stands tall to end the show.

^That match gets ****1/4. I’d give it 4.5 but it just didn’t last long enough. For the time allotted, nothing more could’ve been added to make the match any better. It was flat out awesome. Matches like this belong on pay per view, and we’re lucky enough as fans to see them nearly every week on NXT television.

Final Thoughts:

We had three segment like matches, the Solomon Crowe debut, some promos and a sensational main event. It’s only an 8.5 out of 10. I have to be picky when every show delivers the goods. This one could’ve used a little more wrestling to be on a higher scale, but it was a still a great episode.
