ThunderStruck: WWE Smackdown Analysis 05/23/14

Hulk Hogan kicks off Smackdown after being introduced by Jimmy Hart. He rants and yaks and yada yada yada and WWE Network in the UK and blah blah blah.

^The 02 arena seemed to love Hogan. I don’t, but it worked for the show. Hogan kept it short and sweet, and promotional work is the perfect fit for this guy as long as it stays limited.

The Usos will take on Rowan and Harper later tonight. Cena and Bray Wyatt will be in their corners. Also, Dolph Ziggler will face Batista in a no DQ Match and that is next.

Batista defeats Dolph Ziggler in a twelve minute no-DQ match. Batista gets the win using the spear after Ziggler misses a fameasser on the outside and lands part of his leg on the steel steps. Batista slams Ziggler again after the match.

^That was awesome! Ziggler just went the distance in a straight up Brawl with Batista. If Dolph Ziggler is only ever an enhancement talent, I’d be perfectly content with that as long as we get matches like this every week.

A Bo-lieve promo is shown. Yawn.

Nikki Bella and Eva Marie team up to take on Cameron and Naomi. Summer Rae comes out to be the special referee. Cameron and Naomi get the win in roughly two minutes when one of them pins Eva Marie with a fast count by Summer Rae. Summer ignored the pinfall attempt by Eva Marie during the match.

^More of a segment than a match to promote total divas, but that’s what WWE does. It just felt like a serious waste of time when we could’ve had a decent wrestling match.

Bo Dallas debuts. He cuts a corny promo and then defeats Sin Cara in a short match using the running bulldog off the ropes. Bo tells Sin Cara after the match that he did good and maybe one day he can be like him.

^That was short and silly. I guess whatever works for Dallas is what WWE will work with for a gimmick. That face still frightens me.

A Wyatt family promo happens in the ring. Bray acts crazy, and it’s good(as usual). The audience likes it for the most part.

Sheamus takes on Alberto Del Rio in a non-title match. Cesaro does commentary. Cesaro attacks Sheamus four minutes into the match to cause the DQ. Cesaro nails the neutralizer on Sheamus on the outside.

^I like the Cesaro/Sheamus feud, but my concern is that Del Rio and Sheamus were giving us four minutes of decent action when it was abruptly ended. Couldn’t this thing have gone five more minutes and THEN ended? Just my personal preference.

Smackdown GM, Vickie Guerrero(anyone else forget that besides me?) is in the ring. She introduces Adam Rose. Rose asks Vickie if she’s a lemon or a rosebud. Vickie screams that she is not a lemon. Rose pushes Vickie off the apron into the arms of his rosebuds. They carry her around the ring and to the back.

^That was strange, but I’m okay with it if it means Adam Rose having great matches soon.

Renee Young interviews the Usos. They put over Adam Rose and his party, and then they talk about the Wyatts. John Cena joins them and screws up all his words on purpose to make fun of Bray Wyatt. Cena says actions speak louder than words.

^Cena was funny. The Usos have charisma; let them speak more!

The Usos take on Rowan and Harper in the main event. Bray takes out one of the Usos nine minutes in to cause the DQ. Cena jumps in the ring and nails an AA on Rowan. He challenges Bray to get in the ring but he won’t do it.

^That was outstanding tag team match to end the show. Between the no-DQ Zigs/Batista and the main event, I’m satisfied with the overall show. Everything else was pretty average, but it delivered big in two spots. Call it 6.5 out of 10.
