TNA Impact Wrestling Report – 2/20/15

We start off with a look at this week’s TNA Top 5, then we go to the arena where Kurt Angle comes out to the ring and says he came here to become the #1 contender, and there are 19 other men in that match who don’t have a chance of beating him. We then go backstage to Bobby Lashley, who says that Kurt Angle talks a lot, but he’s going to find Kurt and have a little chat.

Matt Hardy & The Wolves vs James Storm, Abyss & Manik

Everyone starts off brawling at ringside during entrances before eventually finding their way into the ring where the babyfaces trap Manik in their half of the ring. Manik dodgews a charge and Hardy sails out to the floor where Khoya nails him and then Storm rams him into the steps. Storm rolls Hardy back in and Manik is on him like white on rice. Abyss comes in and unloads on Hardy, crushing him with an avalanche in the corner. Hardy is in trouble now, cut off from the Wolves as the Revolution tag in and out and dish out punishment. Hardy ducks a shot from Manik and plants him with the Side Effect, then tags both Wolves in, and they double team the crap out of James Storm. Does that count? I guess so because the referee is just standing there rather casually as the Wolves destroy Storm, then give Manik the Alarm Clock and then Chasing The Dragon. Abyss comes in with the heavy artillery, but the Wolves outmaneuver him, then dump Khoya out to the floor when he tries to get involved. The Wolves take out the entire Revolution with stereo dives to the floor, while in the ring, Hardy hits a Russian legsweep on Manik, a double stomp/Twist of Fate combo by Hardy and Richards, then Eddie hits a top rope double stomp of his own and pins Manik for the win.

Winners: Matt Hardy & The Wolves

The Revolution is back in the ring and the numbers are too much this time, as the 73 of them overwhelm Hardy and the Wolves. Storm nods at Abyss, and he flattens Manik with the Black Hole Slam as punishment for failing him. Storm orders Khoya and Sanada to drag Manik out of the ring as they leave.

Ethan Carter III comes out to the ring with Tyrus and says he is not in a good mood because somebody got in the way of him getting his hands on Spud. He was going to have a hair party, but SOMEONE ruined it. EC3 wants to take a moment to issue a public warning to someone, but before he gets the chance, someone’s music hits, and out comes MISTEEEEEEEEEEEEEER SOOOOOOOOOOMEOOOOOOOOOOOOONE! Ken Anderson asks if the someone he’s referring to is him, and that someone has a name, he hails from…well, you know the rest. He wants to know what Carter’s problem is and why he wants to shave Spud’s head, and he suggests that maybe instead of taking Spud’s hair, he ought to take Carter’s. Anderson takes a razor out of his pocket and says he thinks he ought to do it right now. EC3 seems to be taking Anderson lightly, and Carter says to be his guest because he’ll have to go through Tyrus. Tyrus goes out to the floor and gets right in Anderson’s face, and while Anderson has Tyrus’ attention, Spud and Mandrews come out of the crowd and attack EC3 while Anderson beats Tyrus down at ringside. Anderson comes in the ring and Spud and Mandrews hold Carter to get his head shaved, but Tyrus comes in the ring and beats the crap out of everyone. Anderson hits Tyrus with the Mic Check, then the kids hold Tyrus and duct tape his arms to the ropes, and Anderson gets right in Tyrus’ face and mocks him while Spud buzzes his mohawk off. Oh man, Tyrus is gonna be PISSED. Spud tells Ethan that Tyrus was the first customer in the Rockstar Spud barber shop, and EC3 is next. He says to let the scalping begin, and leads the crowd in a “Scalp, scalp, scalp!” chant.

The Beat Down Clan is backstage, and they all know they can take Kurt Angle out in the Gauntlet, and they’re going to do it because they can.

Mickie James shows up at the building, and the Mystery Cameraman asks her what she’s doing here, and she says she’s here to update everyone on Magnus’ condition.

Al Snow vs Grado

And the winner of this year’s Guy Who Is In Such Amazing Shape You’d Never Know How Old He Is Award…Al Snow! Seriously, the dude looks in better shape than he was in back in the 90s, totally ripped and tanned up. He pummels the crap out of Grado and points to Grado’s parents, who are suspiciously sitting in the same place in the audience and wearing the same stuff as last week. Snow hits the Snowplow, takes his time making a cover, and Grado kicks out at 2. Grado smacks Snow in the face, and Snow slams him hard and just stomps on his nose. Snow motions that he’s going for the kill, flips off the crowd, and hits a moonsault. Grado kicks out at 2 again, so Snow goes for another moonsault, Grado rolls out of the way, takes his straps down, and gives Snow a real week running boot to the chest. He takes all day to set up a running cannonball in the corner, hits it, and then connects with a Dusty Rhodes elbow. Snow goes after Grado with Head, but Grado ducks and lays Snow out with another big boot for the win.

Winner: Grado

First time seeing Grado, and he really didn’t do much for me. Snow gets up and he doesn’t look happy, but he raises Grado’s hand for the crowd. The moment is ruined when Samoa Joe, Low Ki, and Kenny King run in and attack the both of them. Suddenly, a tall guy in a sweatshirt comes out of the crowd and takes out the BDC with a pipe. He pulls the hood off to reveal Drew Galloway, and we see Low Ki looked like he got busted open hardway because he’s bleeding out the side of his head pretty bad as the BDC hightails it.

Angelina Love and the Bromans are backstage taking an “ussie” and then head off to the ring as Amazing Kong looks disdainfully after them.

Knockouts Title Match: Taryn Terrell vs Angelina Love

Angelina attacks Taryn as she enters the ring, shoving her off the top rope to the floor, and then goes out after her and htis a Samoan drop on the floor. They go back inside and Angelina covers Taryn for 2, then she goes to the top rope but gets caught and slammed to the mat. Taryn mounts a comeback, unloading on Angelina and hitting a rolling neckbreaker and a snap suplex for 2. Terrell goes to the second rope and comes off with a clothesline for 2, but Angelina blocks the Ace Crusher and knocks Terrell into next week with the Botox Injection. Angelina covers and gets 2, but Terrell sits out of a DDT attempt and hits the Ace Crusher for the win.

Winner: Taryn Terrell

Taryn gets her belt and holds it up in celebration, but the lights go out and Kong is in the ring when they come up! Terrell isn’t intimidated and goes right after Kong, and actually goes toe to toe with her for a bit before Kong runs her over with a shoulderblock and then hits the Implant Buster. She bends down and picks up the Knockouts Title belt, but Gail Kim comes running out of the back and goes face to face with her old rival. Kong smiles and holds the belt up, then tosses it on Terrell and heads to the back as Gail stares after her resolutely.

We see pictures of the back of Low Ki’s head, where he suffered a nasty gash behind his ear from the attack by Galloway, causing all that bleeding we saw earlier.

We go to a video package featuring a series of backstage promos from the participants in tonight’s Gauntlet, with each man explaining why they’re going to win the match and go on to face Lashley.

We go to the ring where Tommy Dreamer comes out and says that the last time he was in this ring, he got jacked by Eric Young. He came to Scotland to fight, and he wants him out here NOW! Eric’s music hits, but he doesn’t come out, so Dreamer says he thinks Young didn’t hear him, so he repeats that he wants Young to be a man and come out and fight him. Still no EY, so Dreamer sas he’s going to find Eric in the back and fight him all over this building. The cameras follow Dreamer to the back where, predictably, Young blindsides Dreamer and they brawl back out to the entranceway. Dreamer gets a mic and demands a referee come out now because we’re doing this OLD SCHOOL! Dreamer beats Young up around ringside, spits a drink a fan handed him in Young’s face, but then Young picks Dreamer up for an atomic drop and drops him ding-ding first on the guardrail. Young nails Dreamer again and busts him open, and actually bites at Dreamer’s cut, but Dreamer tosses Young into the ring steps, stops to look at the blood pouring down his face, and sends him in the ring to officially start the match…

Tommy Dreamer vs Eric Young

Dreamer gets a table from under the ring, but Young baseball slides it in his face when he tries to toss it back in the ring. Young goes for a piledriver, but Dreamer backdrops him and goes for the DDT. Young blocks and trips Dreamer, then smashes a series of elbows into Dreamer’s bloody face. Young sets the table up and puts Dreamer on it, but takes too long going to the top rope and Dreamer is up and nails Young. Dreamer goes to the top and superplexes Young through the table, but it looks like Dreamer actually took 90% of that bump. We see a few replays of that as Dreamer and Young regain their feet, and Young surreptitiously wedges a chair in the corner as he climbs back to his feet. They trade right hands, then Dreamer does another Dusty Rhodes elbow. Dusty should ask for a payoff for all this. Dreamer elbowdrops a chair into Young’s ding ding, but Young escapes a fireman’s carry, punches Dreamer in his ding ding, rams Dreamer into the chair in the corner, and hits a piledriver for the win.

Winners: Eric Young

Great brawl! I gotta give these guys credit for leaving it all out there.

Bobby Lashley is backstage, and he’s…WALKING! And so is Mickie James! I guess we’ll find out what they want later on tonight!

We look back a few weeks ago when Bram attacked Magnus backstage, then we’re off to the ring where Mickie James comes out and thanks the fans for the great reaction she got. But as amazing as it is for her to be in this ring tonight, she’s heartbroken over what happened with Bram. She has a beautiful son, she’s engaged to Magnus, but a few weeks ago, the guy who was supposed to be Magnus’ best friend beat him up and left him for dead in an alley. She knows Bram thinks of himself as a tough guy and a ruffian, but where she comes from, attacking someone from behind makes them a coward. Uh oh, here comes Bram, and he’s got his cue ball. Mickie says she’s glad he came out here because she wanted to tell him to his face that after Magnus was there for Bram all those times nobody else was, she can’t believe this is the thanks he gives her. Magnus has nerve damage and can’t even hold his own son, but Bram tells her to shut up. He beat Magnus up to open his eyes because he’s watered down and Bram blames Mickie. Magnus is stuck with Mickie and a dirty little kid who ruined his life and that’s why he battered him, but Mickie thinks Bram did it because he knows deep down that he’s only half the man Magnus is and that Magnus would kill him face to face, and she thinks Bram is just a little bitch. Bram backs Micke into the corner, and Mickie slaps Bram in the face, and a group of TNA officials runs out and backs Bram off before he has a chance to lay his hands on her. Mickie gives him the evil eye as he slides out of the ring.

Lashley finds Kurt Angle backstage and asks Angle if he really thinks he can beat him, and Angle says he’s beaten everyone he’s ever been in the ring with, and the only reason Lashley hasn’t lost to him yet is that he hasn’t face him. Lashley says he’ll sit back and watch Angle do what he says tonight.

It’s…MAIN EVENT TIME!

#1 Contender’s Gauntlet Match

Kenny King and Austin Aries start us off, and Dixie Carter will be on Twitter giving spoilers on who the next entrants are. King gets the early advantage and connects with a cartwheel kick, but Aries plants him with an STO and hits the pendulum elbow. Aries tries to dump him, but King hangs on and gouges the eyes. Aries doesn’t let up, hammering on King as we count down to the third entrant, who is…Crazzy f’n Steve. King stomps him out, but Steve pops back up and lays King out, then tries to make friends with Aries, who shakes his hand and then lays him out as well. Jessie Godderz comes in at #4 and goes at it with Aries as Steve rakes King’s back. Jessie presses Aries over his head, but Aries gets out and tosses Jessie. Jessie skins the cat back in and smartly comes under the bottom rope so Aries won’t dropkick him right back out, and Bram is in at #5. He unloads on Steve and tries to toss him as Aries and Jessie are still going at it. Khoya is in at #6, and he shoves Steve clear across the ring as he enters, then backdrops him to the floor when he tries making a charge. Khoya needs to learn how to sell. Sgt. Chris Melendez is in at #7 and goes right after Kenny King, giving him Uncle Slam as Khoya chokes Aries in the corner. It’s time for #8, and it’s Ken Anderson taking us to commercial.

We’re back as Tyrus enters, and as I suspected, he is PISSED. He lays out everyone in his path, dumps Spud almost instantly when he makes his entrance after Tyrus, and then dumps Khoya as well. Sanada sprays green mist in Tyrus’ face and then Anderson bumps Sanda off the apron to eliminate him, and Anderson dumps Tyrus, who tries to skin the cat back in, but Anderson bites his hand and he drops to the floor. Gunner comes in and goes after his lookalike Bram, and Aries and King are both still in here. Ethan Carter III comes in and goes right after Anderson, choking him on theropes as Aries dropkicks Robbie off the top rope to eliminated him. Anderson quickly dumps EC3 as Samoa Joe enters and goes after Anderson and Gunner, but mostly Anderson. Low Ki is in next and he and Joe stick together long enough for MVP to enter, and the entire BDC is in the ring now. Joe tosses Anderson, so it’s them against Aries and Gunner. We count down and Angle is finally in at #20 and suplexes everybody in the world as we go to another commercial.

Aries gets tossed as we come back from commercial, and Angle is now all by himself against the entire BDC. Bobby Lashley comes out from the back to observe the match, and the BDC sees him coming and gives him a friendly wave. The BDC takes turns beating on Angle and shutting down his every comeback attempt, including one where Angle apparently tried to backdrop Low Ki, but accidentally dumped him fact first on the top rope. Angle ducks a charge and dumps Joe, then backdrops Low Ki again and this time gets him down to the floor, and Low Ki appeared to tweak his leg on the way down. Not his night, huh? Angle dumps King as well, and it’s down to Angle and MVP. They trade right hands and MVP wins that one, then hits BALLIN’ and tries to toss Angle. Angle lands on the apron, but pulls himself back in, avoids a baseball slide from MVP, and tries to eliminate him. MVP makes it back in and goes for the Blackout Kick, but Angle dodges it, suplexes MVP into next week, and gets his ankle caught by King as he comes off the ropes. MVP quickly comes in and hits a big boot that sends Angle over the top and to the floor.

Winner: MVP

Battle royals are always fun, and now MVP finally gets his shot to face Lashley for the title next week.
