Toronto Welcomes UFC 140 On December 10th

The Ultimate Fighting Championship had been considering holding events in the Ontario capital of Toronto as well as in Montreal, Quebec. It was confirmed earlier today that the Toronto Air Canada Centre will host UFC 140 on December 10, 2011.

UFC 140 is the organization’s second trip to Toronto; the first was the record-breaking UFC 129 event, which took place in April at Rogers Centre and drew 55,724 fans for a live gate take of $12.075 million gate ($11.5 million Canadian). The event shattered the previous North American MMA records set by UFC 124, which drew a reported 23,152 fans to the Bell Centre in Montreal for a reported live gate of $4.6 million.

As of the release of the news of the venue, no rumored matches have been set as of yet.

One of the longest holdouts in regulating MMA, Ontario held its first sanctioned event on April 2, which featured London, Ontario native and WEC vet Chris Horodecki and recent Strikeforce signee Jordan Mein.
