- WWE’s website has a new article up with Triple H, Daniel Bryan, Robbie Brookside, Antonio Cesaro, Wade Barrett and Fit Finlay talking about how they respect William Regal. Here are quotes from Bryan and Triple H:

Triple H: “I think William Regal’s passion for this business has allowed him to not only succeed but to change with the times. If you look at the things he’s done during his career, from contesting serious matches to making people laugh, that passion has allowed him to fill whatever role needed to be filled. Not a lot of people can do that. That’s a rare quality, to be able to do both.

“For me, WWE NXT is my environment and what I deal with on a daily basis — William Regal is a huge component of that. He’s got a remarkable eye for talent. The rare thing with him is that most guys see new talent in the mold that they are, and that’s what they are interested in. He has a unique ability to look at everything. It can be someone who works in the complete opposite style that he does, but he can still see value. To me, that’s where he plays a huge role — spotting and understanding talent, who can make it.

“As for his jokes, I never hear him, because he’s such a soft talker. We were on the road together for years, and I spent the majority of my time saying, ‘What?’ He has that English sense of humor; you know, in which the joke is so rotten it’s actually funny. It’s not that I’m laughing at the joke, but more at how bad the joke is.”

Daniel Bryan: “One of the things that’s cool to me about William Regal is that he’s a gentleman. He is professional in every aspect of the word. He shows up to the building, and he’s wearing a suit and looks presentable. Also, he’s got that quiet toughness. Some guys are very brash and want to wear their Affliction shirts, but he’s not that guy. You know he’s tough, but he never has to say anything about it. He’s somebody who came up in a different era.

“I was with WWE when I was 18 and then got let go in 2001, but he was responsible for getting me booked in the UK. And I spent six months there in 2003 and another four months in 2005 and another three months in 2008, and that’s all because of him.

“It’s hard to get feedback from good people when you’re on the independent circuit. A lot of those shows I was on, I was main-eventing and people were asking me for advice, but then who do I go to for advice? Regal was always there. Anytime I asked him to watch a match, he’d watch it. And then he’d give me feedback and constructive criticism. When I first got to WWE, he really helped me navigate the waters, as far as, what you should do and don’t need to do here and what’s important.”

  • kamalas leg

How many times are you gonna say “do you see?”

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

unfairly prejudiced for or against someone or something.

Which is exactly my point, Vince will never give us a British World or WWE champion because he’s ignorant, yet he’ll happily put it on an American or Indian wrestler

  • Nik Roseveare

    Exactly! You’re proving my point!

Look up the dictionary definition of the word “biased”… And you’ll realise what a fool you’ve been. Do you see?

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

of course he is, why do you think we’ve never seen a british world champion??

  • CC

Eh? By the time Eddie won the title he was clean.

Before that he even got fired because of his drug habits.
And I cant remember the ins and outs of Hardy’s drug issues, but I am sure that his issues were not while he was champion. And most of them happened after he left WWE or towards the end as I remember Punk playing on it when he cashed in the MITB, and Matt Hardy was pissed off because Punk was insulting his brother who was no longer with the company.

HBK on the other hand was from a different era. Drug taking etc was not so frowned upon in his day. By the time the whole wellness policy etc came it, HBK had been clean for years.

I think though that a better example would be Rey Mysterio who got suspended for breaching the wellness policy, came back and got pushed straight away.
So I sort of agree with you, I just think you used bad examples,

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

Age or not, Hardy & Eddie were hardly youthful when they won the belts either eddie was almost 40

  • Nik Roseveare

You said “Vince is biased towards UK/British talent” … But he clearly isn’t. Thus you don’t know what ‘biased’ means. Do you see?

  • Nik Roseveare

Jeff, Eddie and HBK all had youth on their side… Regal was already 41 years old when he was in the midst of a big push and got suspended for 60 days. Do you see?

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

yes he had a drug issue, but you know who else did?? HBK, Jeff Hardy, Eddy Guerrero etc… so you can’t use that as an excuse

  • Dave

I’m not quite sure you’re correct on that one. Somewhere in the deepest reaches of my memory, I seem to recall him getting a WWE Championship match on Raw, against The Rock. It wasn’t a long match, and if I remember correctly, he ended up tapping to Rocks Sharpshooter, so they didn’t even do him the courtesy of having Rock end it with one of his main finishing moves. Nobody tapped to Rocks Sharpshooter.

  • Fandango’s Stylist

William Regal= Future Hall Of Famer. and he should one last run at the top, If Goldust can do it, Regal can.

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

don’t give me that horse shite…

Yeah Regal had issues, but know who else did? Jeff Hardy (more so in fact) and even hbk and he got pushed to the moon despite screwing up time and time again

And of course vince is biased, why do you think we’ve only seen his favourite wrestlers getting world title reigns

  • Nik Roseveare

Regal was receiving the biggest push of his career in 2008 – feuding with HHH and winning King of the Ring – when he failed a 2nd wellness test and was suspended for 60 days losing all momentum. Yeah, very frustrating… But he can only blame himself for that one.

Also, I don’t think you know what ‘biased’ means!

  • Rob ‘Richard Hammond’ Picken

And yet he’s never been given one single WWE or World Heavyweight title…

Such a shame Vince is biased towards UK/British talent
