Triple H Responds to Critics Regarding Goldberg Squashing Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series

Former WWE Champion Triple H was recently interviewed by News Week UK. You can check out the highlights from the conversation here:

On Goldberg squashing Lesnar:

“People never saw it coming. When you shock them, they’re angry that you shocked them. When you don’t shock them, they say it’s too predictable.”

On if it was bad for Lesnar’s character:

“I guess we’ll see. Would you watch him again…? I don’t think we’ve caused any damage. I’ve seen Brock Lesnar get beat in the UFC, too. It didn’t hurt his value when he [returned] to WWE. You make the best creative decisions [based on] where you want to get to.”

    Well stated.

That’s precisely what they did and what they said they did. Some people liked it, some people didn’t.

You aren’t going to get much quality in a match with two hosses, one of which that had been out of the ring since 2004 and was injured. You’re damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t. I think it was fine. It didn’t hurt Brock at all. So what Goldberg squashed him? Lesnar squashed everybody else and can’t nobody in WWE whup him. So that doesn’t make him look weak, it makes Goldberg look STRONG which is something WWE failed to do that last time he was there.

People needed to understand who and what Goldberg was in his heyday and that match showed an entire generation what Goldberg used to do in WCW and WHY he is a threat to the Beast Incarnate. Look at it from the perspective of someone that became a fan post-Ruthless Aggression era.

“Brock Lesnar is the guy that has destroyed everybody on the WWE roster and ended the Undertakers streak, then this Goldberg guy comes along and rips him to shreds? Whoa, who is this guy?”

A large portion of the audience didn’t get to see Goldberg in his prime like we did.

Maybe there is some overcompensation in this because of how terribly booked Sting was, but all in all I think everything so far has worked perfectly for Goldberg.

It’s not that we were surprised either way, Hunter. It’s the fact that the match felt more like an MMA/UFC bout than an actual wrestling match. It felt like WWE tried to mimmick the MMA/UFC in the ring.
