Tyrus Speaks On His Funkasaurus Gimmick From WWE, Dusty Rhodes

Monstrous BC himself, Tyrus joined the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show this past week to discuss working with Dusty Rhodes, the Funkasaurus gimmick and more. Here are the highlights.

On the Funkasaurus gimmick:

“All I can say is in another life I think the boss wanted to be Baryshnikov or there was some disco clubs somewhere in America in the 60’s or early 70’s that that this guy got it and he never got out of that mindset or he just grew up watching a lot of musicals.  The whole point of the Funkasaurus was I crack jokes backstage.  I’m a smart ass, I tease people, that’s what I do in a locker room, and somehow he heard me cracking jokes one day and said ‘Ah he’s funny, let’s make him dance.’  I’m like, ‘How does jokes equate to dancing?’  I don’t even dance when I’m in the club, I bob my head, that was not my thing.  I’m biracial and the white part of me took over dancing because I just don’t do it.  I don’t have it, I don’t want to have it, and whenever I did dance I felt like just like I was naked coming out the beach in a snowstorm.”

On Dusty Rhodes helping him after learning about the Funkasaurus gimmick:

“I mean, I couldn’t have done [The Funkasaurus] without Dusty Rhodes. He was so instrumental in the whole character thing.”

“I spent the whole day with Dusty and he played ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and me and him danced to it in the arena all day.  I actually have the footage but I was told I was never allowed to show it but I Watched it the other day because I missed him.”

“This is the same guy when I first got there and I was about four hundred sixty pounds they told me I had to wear trunks.  I was like, ‘Oh my god, they hate me.’  So what does Dusty do?  He comes to work with his shirt off.  He walks around the arena with his shirt off.  ‘If I can do it baby, you can do it.’ “
