Update on Rumors of Billy Corgan Possibly Buying TNA, Another Popular Name Interested?

– With Lou D’Angeli confirming rumors that Billy Corgan is in talks to buy TNA, Jason Powell of notes that Corgan was not the person he was referring to when he reported that a notable name has shown interest in purchasing the company.

Also, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter adds that there’s not much to the Corgan rumors because he wouldn’t have the money needed to buy TNA and carry it. adds that Corgan was not the leading candidate to buy the company as of a few days ago.

D’Angeli has since deleted all tweets referring to Corgan buying TNA.

I am not saying I wouldn’t mind seeing it happening by any mean would love to see Dana White buy TNA. It be great for Pro Wrestling and MMA at the same time. But just don’t see Dana White doing it. It be great but in reality don’t see it. Would also be great to get TNA off on Spike TV and back on Fox which would be huge for TNA. Spike TV really sucks which is why Dana took UFC off of Spike TV.

Dana is a money maker, just like Vince McMahon. He is also in the business of entertainment. UFC is entertaining, but so is wrestling. Wrestling is easier since everything is predetermined. Remember the outrage when a UFC event ended because of a quick KO? Won’t happen in pro wrestling. Anyway, the biggest reason Dana is even interested is because he’s competitive. He’d absolutely love to beat Vince at his own game. Honestly, if Dana can use his expertise and also put together the dream team of wrestling minds….. Vince should be concerned.

That would be interesting but highly dough it because Dana White still on into the real thing then the fake stuff sorry wrestling fans on here but wrestling still if fake UFC is not. That is why when Brock Lasner went to UFC White wanted him to leave that Pro Wrestling stuff behind him so as much of that would be great for Pro Wrestling don’t see that ever happening.

Here’s the thing: Dana has noticed the rapid rise of retired MMA fighters looking to get into professional wrestling. Instead of having these big names for a handful of years before their bodies can no longer take the physical nature of MMA, he could now simply allow them to get into his own wrestling promotion (tentatively titled UWC – Ultimate Wrestling Championship).

He’s got the know-how to put together a big event (TV, live or PPV). He’s a marketing genius (right next to Vince). He understands that pro wrestling is a huge market and one he’d like to get into. The only slight issue right now is Spike TV’s television deal. Dana wants them to pull it once the company is sold so he can buy time on the new Fox Sports 1 network, not to mention his bad relationship with Spike.

This will be huge, but a lot of things must fall into place. The interest is there. Also, don’t forget the friendship between Dana and many wrestling personalities (Jim Ross, Bill Goldberg, Steve Austin, Shane McMahon and even Mark Calaway…. though the latter would probably never jump ship).

This could finally be the alternative to WWE we’ve all been waiting for…. let’s keep our fingers crossed.

I’m not sure if your joking or being serious, although I do agree, Dana is probably the only guy who could buy TNA and have the money, resources, and contacts to make anything significant happen. But the guy he was talking about was Tobey Keith who is a fairly big wrestling fan, and was one of the first celebrities to make an appearance in TNA back in 02 or 03 I think.

Wow! I totally agree, that was way left field but hopefully you are right, and who better to bring that company where it should be,

Want to know who it is? Dana White. There, I said it. I know everyone is supposed to keep hush-hush on it, but people deserve to know (even though it’ll be out in the next few days). Dana has always admired what Vince has done in ‘sports entertainment’ and thinks he can outdo him. If there’s one man that could possibly build a true, rival wrestling company, it’s Dana White. You didn’t hear it from me, but you did. This will be huge if the sale goes through.
