Thunder’s Thoughts: Vengeance 2011 Recap

Welcome to my thoughts! In my opinion, Vengeance 2011 lived up to it’s hype! We had a great show, despite the lack of titles changing hands. Let’s get right to the matches!

We opened the show with Air Boom defending their tag team titles. Air Boom retains with an impressive team oriented effort. It’s awesome to see these guys keep the belts, but they need more competition.

Ziggler and Zack Ryder gave us a short but very entertaining match. Ultimately Ryder was distracted by Swagger and ultimately got kicked in the face by Ziggler who scored the pinfall. Ziggler holding onto the title is a good way to keep Ryder chasing the title.

Next we had the divas match. Beth and Eve gave us a brawl. Eve handcuffed Phoenix to the rope with her own piece of wardrobe! They battled on the outside of the ring and gave us solid back and forth action in the ring. We had Eve use a strange submission that almost caused Phoenix to tap out. This was honestly a good match between these two. The match ended with Eve missing a moonsault and Beth hitting the glam slam for the victory.

Sheamus and Christian give us a good match next that results in Sheamus picking up the win. Not exactly sure what this does for Christian in this feud, but I’m sure we’ll see more from these guys in the weeks to come.

Next we had the tag team match between Triple H and CM Punk taking on Truth and Miz. Good match interrupted by a returning Kevin Nash. Nash attacked Triple H and Truth and Miz are able to defeat Punk. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes next for Nash as far as wrestling goes. A match with Triple H rather than a match with Punk would probably be a better option for him at this point.

Orton and Rhodes was a good match, but I’m somewhat irritated with the finish. Rhodes should not be putting over Orton. This does nothing to build Cody as a heel going after the World Title. WWE screwed this one up, despite all the high spots and entertainment in this match. Shame.

Show and Henry was a decent match for two big guys. King’s comparison to Kofi and Bourne for Show and Henry was awful. These guys gave us back and forth action that shook the ring over and over. Chokeslam off the top rope should have been the high spot of the match and Henry kicked out. The followup suplex off the top rope caused the ring to collapse and that became the high spot of the show! We get a non-finish to this contest.

Both guys surveyed the broken ring before the match. This match was far from typical. King calling the ropes useless made you think someone would use them to win. Both of these guys hit their finishers and tried to keep each other down for that dreaded ten count. These guys even took the match backstage. Del Rio used the light pieces backstage to crush Cena and Cena recovered! SuperCena much? Del Rio threw Cena through the Vengeance V stage prop. Del Rio set up a table and climbed the scaffolding to jump off but Cena pulled him down and put him through the table. Del Rio beat the count and the match continued! Cena went for the AA through the announce table and connected! Miz and Truth came down and assaulted Cena! The beat down Cena and Del Rio hits Cena with the belt to win the match!

Great card and I’m stoked to see where RAW goes tomorrow night! Goodnight everybody!
