Promoting TNA Wrestling’s live event at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Velvet Sky addressed a number of topics in an lengthy interview with The Miami Herald including her transition to a singles competitor, the state of the Knockouts division, becoming the Women’s Knockout Champion last year her dream opponent and more. Highlights are as follows:

Branching out a singles wrestler after being attached to Angelina Love: “For a while it was me and Angelina [Love in The Beautiful People]. I was never able to shine really and do anything on my own because she was always in the spotlight.

“Since then, they’ve broken up the Beautiful People, which I’m sad about because I wish they were still going forward with that. We had a lot of fun, her and I together, but I just feel like they broke us up, and I was able to be on my own as a singles competitor.

“I just feel I have grown in the sense of you don’t have someone to have your back all the time. You don’t have the option to tag out and recuperate. I feel, more or less, being a singles competitor instead of in a tag team has helped me branch out and come into my own as a performer.”

TNA providing the Knockouts the time to tell stories each week and the freedom to progress: “It’s awesome here because TNA lets us explore character development. We are not just coming out there as girls wrestling and then you don’t see us for a couple of weeks. We get to do backstage vignettes and promos. They let us speak on the microphone, and we do a lot of it in the ring. You don’t see that elsewhere.

“There are matches [elsewhere] where the girls will wrestle for three minutes or so and go to the back. They don’t say a word, and you really don’t know who is who. Here [TNA] we are so grateful we get the chance to be able to come into our own, have time to talk and have our characters develop. I just feel like that has us connected with the fans more.”

Her dream opponent: “I would absolutely love to work with Amy Dumas one day, the wrestler formally known as Lita.

“She is the whole reason I wanted to get into this business. I have always been a fan of wrestling here and there, but when I saw her for the first time, I was just so blown away by her look and athletic ability and how she connected to the crowd, whether it was male or female.

“I try to pattern myself after her. I don’t do the high-flying maneuvers, staying on the ground, but she is the whole reason I wanted to get into this business and got into wrestling. If she were to come here, I think that would be awesome. I would love to work with her one day.”

  • Nick is Awsome says:

I have to stop making fun of Jason becuse I relize he is semi retarded. The only reason I say Semi is because he seems to function on a computer but again it could be his mom typing this stuff out for him.
With that out of the way I have to say its sad that the Tna knockouts are the only thing that TNA can say they do better than WWE and its even sadder that they barely pull that off.

Oh So Jason “Own’s” a wrestling company of his own now does he HAHAHAHAHAHAH. The JWF. “Highly Imaginative Jason Action”
    He’s a fuckin Mark for Himself… ROFL

  • Mongo

Jason you crack me, anyone can own a wrestling company on those facebook games. I think you need to get out of the basement and spend half the day adjusting to sunlight after you pry your lips off a gun barrel, and see what the real world is like.

  • adam

Yes jason but your missing the point if you were the best company around you would be making a gross profit like wwe. Your ppv’s would be getting buy rates like wwe. All your ppv’s combined from the past year wouldnt make what wrestlmania made. Whats your big one bound for glory did it even come close to Wrestlmania or Royal Rumble or even Elimination chamber. The reason i said amy wouldnt go to tna isnt because of loyalty to wwe or me thinking tna is bad its because she is RETIRED FROM WRESTLING. But if she was to come back it most likely would be to wwe. And your calling us marks for liking wwe is rich and makes me laugh. Because if you really wanted people to watch tna which is what you should want so it gets higher ratings makes more money becomes more popular you wouldnt be insulting people you would say just watch and you will see what i mean. We all know you dont really work for TNA if you did you wouldnt have this much free time to spend on the boards. You are just a TNA mark and its ok. I mean i do like some of what tna does but they need to stop shoving gunner and garrett bichof down peoples throats and dixie needs to stop saying OH BIG SUPRISE COMING when the last big suprise was kurt angle and that was years ago.

  • Steve

Running an e-fed isn’t really “owning a wrestling company”.

  • Jason

Okay Mongo, who do you think she meant when she said the other company that gives women 3 mins to tell a story in the ring every week? I only know of one company dumb enough to do that and it’s the WWE.

I have more of a clue then any of you, I work in the business and own a wrestling company of my own. I work around wrestlers at least 4 days out of the week. I know more than you little boy

  • Mongo

Jason you have no clue what a real wrestler is. You obviously have no idea what a good product is. You live in a deluded fantasy of your own creation. ALso how would you know what she meant? were you a part of the interview with her? Did you sit next to her and take notes from her while she spoke and translated her words into what you wished she said? Grow up little man.

  • SpudimusPrime89

Also, Lita is retired from wrestling.

  • SpudimusPrime89

What the hell does Molly have to do with this? She left WWE on good terms.

  • Jason

Once again you marks missed my point altogether. Reread what I said. Here you go

Anyways below is what Jamie/Sky meant.

    Did you miss that part

And Mongo being popular based on WWE marks does not make one company better then another. I would take the word of real wrestlers who most always praise TNA as a better company to work for over what WWE hardcore marks say. All women wrestlers say this to be true for sure.

BTW why should Lita be loyal to WWE when they never treated her right and shit all over her via in her last match. If I was Amy I would listen to Molly Holly, Gail Kim, Mickie James and Tara and go to TNA.

  • SpudimusPrime89

    Wrong article, Ant.

  • Ant

please dont tell me r truth is about to get completely squashed by lord tensai

  • Ant

i would pay to see velvet sky face trish stratus in her prime

  • adam

@mongo. Dont you know according to jason ratings dont prove your a good company. And she can hope for that but unless velvet comes to wwe she will never face lita she wouldnt join tna.

  • Mongo

If this wrestling company is the best then why are their ratings so low, why are they not on a real popular network channel? Also adding words and chaning words in a quote doesn’t really make your point, it actually makes you look like even more of a tool.

  • SpudimusPrime89

Nice of you to change the words in the quote, even though it was quite obvious.

  • Jason

Just one more reason why TNA is the best pro wrestling company around today. We let all of our talent go out and steal the show.

All though the WWE elite on this site will bash me for saying such a thing but it is the damn truth. Anyways below is what Jamie/Sky meant.

TNA providing the Knockouts the time to tell stories each week and the freedom to progress: “It’s awesome here because TNA lets us explore character development. We are not just coming out there as girls wrestling and then you don’t see us for a couple of weeks like up north in the WWE. We get to do backstage vignettes and promos. They let us speak on the microphone, and we do a lot of it in the ring. You don’t see that in the WWE.

“There are matches [In the WWE] where the girls will wrestle for three minutes or so and go to the back. They don’t say a word, and you really don’t know who is who. Here [TNA] we are so grateful we get the chance to be able to come into our own, have time to talk and have our characters develop. I just feel like that has us connected with the fans more.”

  • Lee

Velvet Velvet Velvet, lets be honest. While you make great eye candy, the truth is you can’t even tie Lita’s wrestling boots.
