Who will close Wrestlemania 33 Sunday?

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, the original plan was to have Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title close Wrestlemania 33, however, it seems WWE officials have had a change of heart.

Meltzer reports that the WWE decided to make a change after gauging fan interest in the event, and Vince McMahon called for The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns to close out the pay-per-view (PPV) as it is the most anticipated match on the card. Of course it would be no surprise to anyone if he decided to change his mind again, but for now that is what is penciled in.

I don’t know, on one hand Taker should be in the main event. On the other hand, fans don’t feel the same way about Reigns being pushed to the main event…

  • Assuming it is Takers last match like it sounds like, it should absolutely go on last. He deserves it.

Damn, didn’t know that! Well then they need to hook that up!

I think that the only problem Goldberg has is his cardio. All he really needs is five or six “big” moves and let Brock carry the rest of the match. That can keep Goldberg from blowing-up so fast.

Make no mistake. This match needs to be highspot-heavy. Big moves, multiple finishers, and at least some MMA-type submissions. Even if Brock was to obliterate Goldberg it wouldn’t make things fair. Goldberg can just say, “Okay. Now you are 1-3. 1-4 if you count the Royal Rumble. Whoop-dee-do.” If you invested so much into making Goldberg look so superior to Brock, then that can’t change now.

I think Brock needs to win by the skin of his teeth to make it seem realistic. After the match maybe Goldberg gives Brock a fist-bump or something to say, “Okay bro. You got me.” That also could kill the moderate heel-heat Goldberg has been amassing so that if he does continue on, he can have the sympathy on him.

IF WWE serious about Reigns-Lesnar II at WM34, now is a good time to start building Brock as a face and Reigns as the monster-heel. The Brock can put Reigns over as the new top-dog and Brock can retire with class “doing the honors” so-to-speak.

Recently Sting has said he wants one more match and only with Undertaker.

  • BiggEZ

I agree with you except for he and Sting closing out each others’ careers. Sting announced his retirement at the Hall of Fame last year (although he DID say “nothing’s for certain”) Oh well, I guess it could happen, I just don’t see it. I think they could have made one “HELL” of a tag team though!

I think we’ve seen the best Bill has to offer. He takes every opportunity to tell us that he’s old and broken down and nowhere near the condition he was in his last run. That being said, I’m afraid to even see this match. The only way to redeem their past performances would be for Brock to completely obliterate Bill in a five-minute match, with AT LEAST five German suplexes. However, I just don’t see that happening with the shape Bill is currently in. I’d be fine with it closing if they were to book it that way. But they already did the quick finish twice with Brock and KO. Doing it a third time would personally infuriate me, and probably a bunch of others

I think that there is a dubious side-effect in this and it is smart that WWE has allowed people to think Goldberg/Lesnar is going to close out the show. There is no way that Vince would have a 2 -minute match close out Wrestlemania so people naturally assume that the match will be at least 10 minutes or more. If Taker/Reigns were to close the show, then people would have been worried that we’d see another flash-finish. Now they have the flexibility to do whatever the want by waiting.

I still hope we get to see at least a half-decent match from Lesnar and Goldberg. They owe us that. I wanna see the best those two have to offer.

Nobody knows at this point if it’s going to be his last match or not, including Taker himself. All anyone knows at this point is that he’s penciled in for hip surgery immediately after the event. So who knows? Maybe around the end of the year, or beginning of the next, he’ll say he’s good to go for one more. It’s totally up to him and how his body is holding up around Wrestlemania season.

  • MindTricked

Yeah, I’m 100% in agreement here. That being said, his match with Reigns has no business closing out the show unless the career is over.

  • D2K

No one knows except for Mark whether or not this is his last match. Honestly, I don’t know if he can pull the trigger to say, “That’s It” as long as he can still perform. Even if it is sub-par by his standards. The Undertaker might have to have the decision made for him.

I think that if he hasn’t decided y now then it’s not going to be his last match. He deserves everything that comes with a retirement match. Just having him say a few months from now, “Oh yeah, I’m retired” would be lame. Maybe he wants to see how he feels after the hip surgery and if he feels good enough, maybe he and Sting can close out each other’s career.

  • MindTricked

I’m kind of ambivalent towards the whole thing. If it’s Undertaker’s last match, i.e. he leaves his boots in the ring, then absolutely it should be the main event. Otherwise, might as well be Brock vs. Goldberg.
