WWE Championship match not taking place inside Hell In A Cell?

Hell In A Cell Main event

As we noted previously, Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Randy Orton on SmackDown Live to earn another title shot against the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal at the upcoming Hell In A Cell PPV.

Shortly after the SmackDown episode, WWE posted a statement on their official website hyping the upcoming championship match between Mahal and Nakamura.

However, interestingly, the statement as seen here does not have any mention of their match taking place inside the well-known steel structure known as the Hell In A Cell.

This has started rumors that the championship rematch from SummerSlam between the two stars may not take place inside the cage at all.

If these speculations turn out to be true, the other option WWE has is to have the rumored match between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon take place inside the cell instead.

This appears to be a good idea as the rivalry between Owens and the junior McMahon has quickly become very personal and it will be suitable to have this match take place inside the unforgiving steel structure.

Though there is still enough time between now and the Hell In A Cell PPV and it’s possible that the company may announce the cage stipulation for the Championship match as well.

A hell in a cell match should be reserved for established rivalries that get real dirty. That is why Shane/Owens makes sense. The title match does not as Nakamura has more heat right now with Orton than he does with Mahal. The only problem I foresee in this title match is that Orton will screw Nakamura out of the title.

If there was a good build up between the two, and maybe Nakamura kept getting attacked by the Singh brothers for instance, then a HIAC match would make sense.

It was obvious to me that Shane v Owens would be a HIAC match because of Shane’s involvement. Putting Mahal v Nakamura in a cell does not make it more exciting, not to mention it’s just not a high-caliber match for a main event.

There seems to be a lack of main event talent on Smackdown right now. They really need to utilize AJ Styles as he is the best talent on the show now. Hopefully they will push Rusev to the top as he is being wasted.

This is why it’s dumb to have themed PPVs where gimmick matches are shoehorned in without a proper buildup.
