Here are the results from today’s WWE Clash Of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) courtesy of PWInsider:

CLASH OF CHAMPIONS KICKOFF

The panel is Renee Young, Booker T, Jerry Lawler and Lita.

Ton Phillips announced they would have a Q&A with Sami Zayn to discuss his bout with Chris Jericho.

They aired a video package on Roman Reigns vs. Rusev.

The panel discussed who would win tonight.  Lita called Reigns.  Lawler said it would be Rusev.  I don’t even know who Booker picked!

Sasha Banks was interviewed backstage.  She said she’s been waiting over a month to get payback on Charlotte for trying to injure her.  She said it’s a big match for Bayley but tonight is about her.  She said she’s going to become a two time women’s champion.  Dana  Brooke showed up and said Sasha should only be feeling fear and worry that Charlotte is going to finish her up together.  Banks said that if Brooks gets involved tonight, she’s going to be the one on the injured list.

They aired a video feature on the Raw Women’s championship.

They talked about the Best of Seven Series between Cesaro and Sheamus.

Sheamus joined the panel.   He said that he didn’t feel any pressure going into the final bout.  He said that Cesaro is right up there with Daniel Bryan as one of his toughest opponent.  Booker said that some people might say that Sheamus dropped the ball.  Sheamus said he’s seen Booker in a Best of Seven series in the past but tonight he’s going to win and get his championship opportunity.  Sheamus came off really jovial, as opposed to playing a pissed off heel.  He said that being the last draft pick on Smackdown made him wonder whether he’s gotten complacent.  He said there are no excuses tonight if he loses.  He said he would walk out a decisive winner.

They aired a video piece on the Cruiserweight division.  The panel discussed the Cruiserweight championship match.  Booker talked about TJ Parker.  Ooops.  Lawler said Perkins could be a flash in the pan because whatever he accomplished before WWE means nothing.  Well, what about that entire tournament he just won?

They showed the footage of Chris Jericho laying out Sami Zayn several weeks back on Raw.  Zayn was interviewed by Tom Phillips, taking Twitter questions.  Zayn said the highlights of his career were winning the NXT championship, wrestling at Wrestlemania and beating Kevin Owens at Battleground.  He said the best moment will be when he one day he wins the Universal title and hopefully, from Owens.  He was asked how it feels to have fans singing his theme music.  He said he considers himself a musical person and noted that fans have sang his song his entire career with “Ole Ole Ole” and now they sign his current theme.  Zayn said he was told at a young age it’s good to have a song stuck in his head and he hopes he can be the song stuck in others’ heads.  He said that he wants the old Chris Jericho tonight.

The panel talked the Raw Tag Team championship match.

They pushed that Total Bellas will debut a week from Wednesday.

Nia Jax vs. Alicia Fox

Fox dropkicked Jax and drilled her with several kicks to try and take her out early only to be driven backwards into the buckles.  Jax drilled her with a running kick to the back and an Avalanche.  Jax flung her across the ring by her hair and stomped and kicked at Fox.  Jax hooked her arm and tried to choke her out, using her weight to wear Fox down.  Fox tried to fight her way out but was tossed and slammed across the ring.

Fox avoided a charge in  the corner and nailed a series of forearms and a dropkick.   Fox was whipped into the ropes and for some reason went over the top to the apron.   She snapped Jax’s throat across the ropes and hit a bodypress.  She nailed the scissor kick but Jax kicked up at two.  Fox charged but was wiped out by a shoulder tackle, killing her momentum.

Fox collapsed in a corner and was wiped out with a hip attack, then nailed with a Samoan Drop for the pin.

Your winner, Nia Jax!

OK match but there were a few times Fox took bumps or went down for some reason that was completely foreign to me.  Jax looked fine.

The Kickoff show closed with the panel previewing the Universal chamapionship main event.

WWE CLASH OF CHAMPIONS 2016

WWE Tag Team champions The New Day vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

Usual entertaining promo from New Day.   Anderson and Kingston started out.  Gallows attacked E and then Woods on the floor.  Anderson nailed a Liger Bomb for a two count.  He began beating Kingston with right hands.  They worked over Kofi until he was able to get the tag to Big E.  Big E shocked with a big shoulderblock but Anderson kicked up.  He went for a running powerslam but Gallows made a blind tag and drilled him with a big boot.  They double teamed E but Kingston broke it up at the last second after the Boot of Doom.

Amderson was sent over the top by E.  Gallows checked on him as Woods rallied the crowd with the trombone.  Kingston tagged in and went for flying move but was caught and nailed with a spinebuster for another two count.  Gallows nailed a chokeslam.  They set up for the Magic Killer but Kingston slipped out.  Gallows charged but missed Kofi, nailing the ringpost.  E tagged in and hit the Big Ending but was pulled out of the ring by Gallows during the pinfall attempt.

Kingston nailed a dive to the outside.  Anderson was clobbered by Woods with the Trombone.  The champs nailed Midnight Hour and scored the pin.

Your winners and still WWE Raw Tag Team champions, The New Day!

Entertaining opener.  I wonder if the interference will play into the story between the two sides continuing on Raw tomorrow.

They aired a feature on the WWE Cruiserweight championship.

Tom Phillips interviewed Cruiserweight champion TJ Perkins.  He said he’s been waiting since 1998 to be a WWE Superstar and now he’s here as the Cruiserweight champ.  He said Kendrick has been here before but Perkins has the confidence.  Perkins came off as if he was still getting comfortable doing promos.

WWE Cruiserweight champion TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick.

Perkins had a 8 bit graphic and videogame inspired entrance.  It was really, really cool.  They noted Kendrick used to drive Perkins to wrestling school when he was a kid skipping High School.    They had some nice back and forth action early.  Perkins tried to lock in a kneebar several times.   Kendrick went to the floor.  Perkins went to follow but was trapped in the apron skirt by Kendrick, who worked him over.

The crowd chanted back and forth for Kendrick and “TJP.”  Perkins trapped him in a Pendulum and then turned it into the Muta Lock.   Kendrick cut him off and locked in a Straitjacket submission.   Kendrick tried to toss Perkins out of the ring but TJP caught himself in the ropes.  Kendrick charged but TJP dropped and Kendrick hit the floor.  They battled back and forth.  Kendrick nailed a monkeyflip for a two count.

Kendrick slipped in horizontal surfboard, putting his boot in the back of TJP’s head for added leverage.  Perkins broke free and nailed an atomic drop followed by a mule kick.  Perkins nailed a back suplex for a two count.     Perkins went to the top but was cut off.  Kendrick went for a superplex but was shoved back into the ring. Perkins leapt off the top and nailed a rana over the ropes to the floor.

Perkins missed a 450 splash off the top.  Perkins went for the  Bully Choke but Perkins broke free.  Perkins finally locked in a kneebar and finally Kendrick tapped.

Your winner and still Cruiserweight champion, TJ Perkins!

Good match and a better showcase for the division than the Raw segment this past week.  You could tell that a portion of the crowd wasn’t famiiar with them but others were loving the match.

After the match, Perkins was about to be interviewed when Kendrick offered his hand and hugged him, then hit a headbutt on Perkins, laying him out.

They aired an AWESOME promo for WWE 2K17 exploring “Suplex City.”

Cesaro was interviewed backstage.  He said he was going to earn this championship opportunity tonight and reward the Cesaro Section the biggest comeback in sports-entertainment history.

Match Seven in Best of Seven Series: Cesaro vs. Sheamus

They went back and forth with some hard hitting shots.  Sheamus drilled the Irish Curse on Cesaro, playing off his injured back.  Sheamus nailed a flying clothesline for another two count.  Sheamus picked him up for the Celtic Cross but Cesaro slipped through for a sunset flip, scoring a two count.   Sheamus cut him off and worked him over in the corner, drilling him into the turnbuckle.  They exchanged uppercuts.  Sheamus missed a charge into the corner and was nailed with an uppercut to the back of the head.

Sheamus was sent into the corner and nailed with a series of leaping uppercuts.  He nailed a tornado DDT for a close two count.  Cesaro went for a Cloverleaf but Sheamus kicked him off.  Cesaro shocked Sheamus with a 619 and nailed a flying bodypress for a two count.  They noted it was Rey Mysterio’s finisher.  Sheamus was caught with a springboard corkscrew uppercut.

Cesaro called the swing but Sheamus kicked him and rolled up Cesaro for a two count, even hooking the tights.  Sheamus worked over Cesaro’s back and cinched in the Texas Cloverleaf.  Sheamus pulled him away from the ropes but was caught in a small package for a two count.  Sheamus nailed a big backbreaker for a two count.

Cesaro caught Sheamus with the big sweing and locked in the Sharpshooter.  Sheamus made it to the ropes to break the move.  Sheamus went to the outside part of the apron.  Cesaro went to the ropes and tried to muscle Sheamus into a suplex into the ring but his back was hurting.  Sheamus went for an Irish Curse on the apron but was kicked off the apron to the floor.  Cesaro nailed a frighteningly sick suicide dive to the floor where after hitting Sheamus he came down on the top of his head.  It was nutty, similar to the way Lita came down with a sick dive years ago.

Sheamus got him back in the ring and nailed the Brogue Kick for a two count.  Sheamus began stomping and attacking Cesaro’s neck.  Cesaro fired up with a clothesline and nailed the Neutralizer for another close two count.  The last few minutes of this has been really, really good.  They battled back and forth with uppercuts and strikes.  They battled to the top rope, where Cesaro teased superplexing Sheamus to the floor.  Cesaro was shoved down to the apron and crashed to the floor.  Sheamus came off the top but was drilled with an uppercut as he came down.  Sheamus caught Cesaro with White Noise on the floor.

They battled on the floor and both went over the barricade and into the first row after a clothesline spot.  The WWE medical staff began checking on them.  The referee and the doctors called the match.  Cesaro protested that he can still go and “I’ve fought with one arm before.”    Sheamus was out of it and flailing all over on the floor.  The crowd booed the finish and chanted “Let them fight.”

Cesaro rolled into the ring and demanded Sheamus return.  Sheamus tried to return but was pulled back to the locker room by WWE officials against his will.

Just a brutal, physical match.  They absolutely saved the best for last.  The finish absolutely let the live crowd down but I felt like the competitors and WWE got more out of this and made the fans care more about the rivalry here than they had before, so if they can follow up with a big rematch on Raw or the next PPV, I can see why WWE did it.  But, the effort here was great.

Backstage, Bayley was preparing for her match.  She had polka dots on in honor of Dusty Rhodes.  Charlotte showed up and said that Bayley backdoored her way into the title match and won’t win.  Bayley reminded Charlotte that she pinned her on Raw.  Charlotte said that Bayley can’t beat her and can’t even beat Sasha.

Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn.

They had some really good opening sequences. Zayn nailed some nice deep armdrags and chopped away at Jericho in the corner.  Jericho retreated to the floor but was caught by Zayn charging with a clothesline.  Zayn nailed a moonsault off the barricade and tossed Jericho back into the ring.  Jericho used the referee as a shield and nailed Zayn with a springboard dropkick while Zayn was outside on the apron.  Jericho followed it up with a dropkick that sent Zayn to the floor.  Jericho has done a better job playing off the crowd and trying to get heat than anyone else thus far on the show.

Jericho dropped Zayn on the barricade face-first.    Jericho came off the top with a flying back elbow.   He slapped Zayn in a disrespectful way and sent him into the buckles.  He began razzing Zayn and chopped him.  Zayn fired back and went for a move but was caught and crotched on the ropes.   Jericho shoved him off to the floor in rude fashion.

Jericho suplexed Zayn on the floor.  He continued to work over Zayn and cinched in a chinlock.  Zayn fought to his feet but was kicked off as he charged.  Jericho went for a bulldog but Zayn used Jericho’s momentum to send him into the buckles.  Zayn scored with a clothesline and sent Jericho over the top to the floor.  Zayn nailed a nice tope con hilo over the top to the floor.

Zayn nailed a flying bodypress for a two count.  You could hear fans chanting for Jericho.  Zayn nailed a Michinoku Driver for a two count.  Zayn went to the top but Jericho met him  and scored with several shots.  Jericho set up for a superplex but was caught and sent into the ring.  Jericho attempted the Walls of Jericho but Zayn slipped out.  Jericho caught him with an enziguiri.  Zayn was out on his feet as Jericho kept working him over and kicked at him.  The fans chanted “Ole Ole Ole.”  Zayn fired back with open handed strikes but was drilled by a Jericho elbow.

Jericho went for a Lionsault but Zayn pulled his knees up.  Zayn went for the Blue Thunder Bomb but Jericho countered.  Zayn drlled him and nailed a tornado DDT.  He called for the Helluva Kick but Jericho slipped under the ring ropes.  Zayn followed him and dove through the buckles to hit the tornado DDT.  It wasn’t as smooth as ones he’s done in the past but it worked and the crowd popped for it.

Back in the ring, Zayn went for the Helluva Kick but Jericho slipped out of the way.  Zayn got caught up in the corner.  Jericho attempted the Codebreaker but it was stopped and Jericho was hit with the exploder in the corner.  Sami went for the Helluva Kick again but Jericho slipped away and locked in the Walls of Jericho in the center of the ring.  Zayn’s facial expressions as he fought to get to the ropes were great.  He tried to reverse it and did so, then caught Jericho in a small package for a two count.

Zayn caught Jericho coming off the ropes and turned him into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count.  Great stuff.  Zayn went to pull up Jericho but was trapped with a Codebreaker out of nowhere and pinned.

Your winner, Chris Jericho!

Very, very good match with some great near falls and near-flawless performances from each competitor.  This was my favorite Jericho match in a LONG time and Zayn did a great job as a babyface here.

Backstage, Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley approached and buttered up WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens.  Owens asked Mick if he’s proud of him.  Mick said he was.  Owens asked if he was proud of all the obstacles that Mick has put him in his way since becoming champion.  He said that he was going to show Stephanie why HHH picked him over Seth Rollins and why they should have picked him over Rollins as the top Raw draft pick.  He said he was going to show everyone that he was the main event and was going to show the world that Seth was no longer the man, just the mistake.  He pointed at Mick and said, “Your mistake.”

WWE Women’s champion Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

I have to admit, every time I see Bayley’s entrance on the main roster, it really makes me smile.

Lots of frenzied action and some near falls early until all three tried to nail a dropkick at the same time before facing off.  Banks has her ribs taped.  Bayley was taken out with a double clothesline but Sasha then nailed Charlotte.  Banks went for a tiltowhirl backbreaker but it was blocked and Charlotte nailed a neckbreaker.  Charlotte went to the top for a moonsault but was nailed and tied to the tree of woe.  Banks nailed a running knee strike.  Bayley nailed Banks and hit Charlotte with an elbow as she was still hung upside down for a two count.

Banks tried to toss Bayley to the outside but Bayley hung on and nailed her with a shoulderblock.  Dana Brooke nailed Bayley from behind and drilled her on the floor.  Charlotte attacked Banks and began working over her back.  Charlotte locked on a surfboard.  She ripped the tape off Banks’ back and then used the ringpost to continue to assault her back.  Bayley returned to the fray but was quickly kicked back down by the champion.

Banks tried to fight back and finally nailed a spinning headscissors takedown.  Banks nailed a series of forearms and clotheslines.  She caught an attempted kick and nailed a knee to the face.  She went for the backstabber but Charlotte drilled her.  Bayley returned with a big flying bodypress on both.  Bayley worked over both with shoulders to the mid-section of each in opposite corners.  Banks scored against each and nailed a double decker knee on Bayley and Charlotte, with Charlotte sliding out of the way at the last second.

Banks covered Bayley but Charlotte pulled her out of the ring.  Banks fired back with forearms on Charlotte and even Brooks on the floor.  Charlotte cut her off with a backbreaker.  Charlotte went for the figure eight but was kicked off…and right into a Bayley to Belly.  Charlotte was covered but Sasha interfered and scored her own two count.  All three of them ended up on their knees battling each other with the challengers finally working over the champion at the same time.

Bayley was sent rudely into the buckles.  Banks unloaded hard on Charlotte with rapid-fire chops.  Charlotte was set up for a superplex only to fight it off and sent Banks down hard.  Bayley tried to get involved and she and Charlotte crashed into the ropes.  Charlotte nailed a moonsault on them both at the same time but Banks kicked out when she tried to score a pinfall.  Bayley also kicked out.  Charlotte nailed Natural Selection on Bayley but Banks grabbed her in the Bank Statement.  Brooks pulled her out of the ring.

Bayley and Banks scored near falls on each other.  Charlotte returned but was nailed with the Backstabber into the Bank Statement by Banks.  Brooks tried to get involved but Banks kicked her away.  Bayley broke it up.  Banks went for the Bank Statement on Bayley but Charlotte drilled her with a big kick.  Banks was sent to the floor and then sent into the barricade.   Charlotte returned to the ring but was caught with an inside cradle by Bayley for a two count.

In the end, Charlotte kicked Bayley into Banks, who was knocked off the apron to the floor then drilled Bayley with Natural Selection and scored the pin.

Your winner and still WWE Raw Women’s champion, Charlotte!

They noted Charlotte is 12-0 in title matches on PPV.

A very good match with some cool exchanges and near falls.

WWE United States champion Rusev with Lana vs. Roman Reigns

Rusev muscled Reigns to corner and Reigns returned the favor.  Roman nailed him and sent him to the floor.  Rusev tried to charge back in but was nailed and sent back to the floor.  He walked around outside to try and curb Reigns’ early momentum.  They circled each other and slugged it out.   Reigns nailed a big right hand but was caught with a spinkick for a two count.

Rusev worked over Reigns with a series of right hands.   Rusev drilled him with a kick to the mid-section as Reigns was on all fours, then choked him against the ropes.  He whipped Roman hard into the buckles.   Rusev continued to work over Reigns’ ribs and mid-section with knee strikes and punches but Reigns came back with a big right hand.  He tried to mount a comeback and nailed a big clothesline.

They battled to the floor.  There was a big “CM Punk” chant.  Rusev sent Reigns into the stairs.  Reigns was brought back to the ring and was worked over.  He tried to power up but was nailed in the ribs and drilled with a headbutt.   Rusev naile a big kick but missed a leaping headbutt when Roman rolled out of the way.  Roman nailed a Samoan Drop for a two count.

They once again battled to the floor, where Rusev was driven backwards into the barricade and then sent into the steel ring steps.  Roman set up for the Superman Punch but Rusev nailed him.  They fired back and forth with punches.  Rusev snapped him off the ropes and rolled up Roman for a two count.  He leapt up with a kick for another two count on Reigns.  Solid match so far.

Rusev charged Reigns but was nailed with the Superman Punch for a two count.  Roman set up the spear but Lana got on the apron.  That allowed Rusev to nail the distracted Reigns with another kick but Roman kicked off.  Rusev was extremely frustrated.  He went to set up for the Accolade but Reigns slipped out and scored the spear.  He covered Rusev but Lana pulled the referee out of the ring.  She was trying to get a DQ but he instead threw Lana out of ringside and allowed the match to continue.

Reigns rolled up the champ for a two count and sent him to the floor.  Rusev nailed the Driveby dropkick on the apron and then nailed one onto the announcers’ table.  Rusev was tossed back into the ring but caught Reigns with a kick for a two count.  He cinched in the Accolade.  Reigns fought and got to his feet.  Rusev raked his eyes but Roman still speared him and scored the pin.

Your winner and new WWE United States champ, Roman Reigns!

Good match with a solid back and forth heel vs. babyface story.

Backstage, a pissed off Seth Rollins told Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon that they bet against the wrong guy and told Steph to go tell her husband that as well.

The next Raw PPV will be the 10/30 Hell in A Cell PPV in Boston, MA.

WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

Owens right to the floor at the bell to try and get inside Rollins’ head.  Seth went to the floor so Owens returned to the ring and challenged him to fight.  Owens caught him with a right and tried to whip Rollins into the barricade but it was reversed.   Rollins stomped him in the corner.   Seth came off the apron with a leaping knee to the face.  Rollins scored a two count.

Rollins scored several two counts and nailed a Blockbuster off the ropes for another two count.  Owens rolled to the outside apron and nailed Rollins.  Seth went for a pedigree but backdropped Owens to the apron.  Owens drilled him with a kick to the back of his knee and nailed a DDT for a two count.  Rollins began limping and the announcers pointed out that he had undergone reconstructive surgery on the knee.  Owens began working on Rollins, telling him Raw was his show.  Rollins fired back with punches and they each peppered the other.

Owens continued to go after Rollins’ knee.  He backdropped Rollins over the top to the floor.   Owens nailed the Cactus Elbow off the apron.  Rollins made his way back to the ring but was snapmared over and hit with a back senton splash for another two count.   Owens cinched in a side chinlock, wearing down the challenger.  Owens was great at verbally tearing down Rollins and putting himself over.  Rollins fired out but the crowd wasn’t responding like he was a big babyface.

Owens whipped Rollins hard into the buckles.  He sent Seth into the buckles again.   Rollins made a comeback and drilled Owens in the corner.  He slammed Owens into the  buckles and drilled him over his knees for a two count.  Rollins dropkicked Owens out of the ring and then sent him into the barricade.  Rollins set up the Spanish Announcing Table.

Owens and Rollins returned to the ring and went back and forth with reversals until Rollins nailed a superkick for a two count.  He went for a Pedigree but Owens slipped out and drilled him in the knee.  Owens nailed a cannonball in the corner for a two count.    Owens went for the package piledriver but Rollins slipped out.   he nailed a big knee.  Owens nailed a kick but Rollins caught him with an enziguiri and they both went down.

Owens sent him into the corner but missed the cannonball.    Rollins was caught with a series of knees for a two count.  They battled to the top.  Owens came off the top with a gutbuster but Rollins appeared to take it across his side.  It looked brutal.  Owens followed up with a frog splash for a two count.  Rollins went to the floor and was clutching at his ribs.

Owens brought him over to the exposed announcers’ table and placed him across it.  Owens stepped atop the other announcers’ table.  He went to do a back senton splash through Rollins but Seth rolled out of the way and Owens crashed through.   Rollins tossed him and came off the top with a flying knee.  He ascended to the top again and nailed a frog splash but Owens was able to get his shoulder up before the three count.
