WWE files lawsuit against BitTorrent users

According to a report from World Intellectual Property Review, the WWE has filed a a copyright infringement lawsuit against a group of BitTorrent users for the 2016 movie release of WWE Studios’ “Eliminators” which featured now-former WWE Superstar Wade Barrett.

The lawsuit was filed on Thursday, April 6th in Connecticut which claims that the defendants vicariously infringed on WWE’s copyright, and used BitTorrent to “unlawfully acquire, reproduce, and distribute” the movie.” The defendant’s IP addresses were identified with forensic software, and WWE are not suing BitTorrent themselves for the infringement.

The WWE is looking to get actual damages, statutory damages of $150,000 per infringement, costs and a jury trial.
