WWE has option to buy and shut down their UK partner promotions

We noted before how recent report revealed that WWE was imposing restrictions on their talents from the UK Division, which means that they won’t be able to work with other promotions in the area.

The only exception for this rule were the promotions which have a working relation with the company, and now a new report has revealed some interesting details about this agreement.

The latest edition of wrestling observer newsletter reveals that the agreement WWE has done with the indie promotions has a clause that allows them to buy and shutdown the company if they want to:

“Part of the WWE’s working agreements originally offered and agreed to were that WWE would have the right for the next several years, if they choose, to purchase the companies for an agreed upon price (high six figures in at least some cases) and then shut them down so they would no longer compete “with themselves” with the idea that would take place when they were running full-time schedules in those markets.”

While it’s most likely that WWE will not invoke this clause unless a serious dispute breaks out between them and the partner promotion, it’s still interesting to know that they have such a clause in the contract.
