Amid rumors that WWE is considering cooling the Rusev gimmick following the recent MH17 tragedy, it seemed that Lana made reference to the incident in a speech at last night’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view.
While not referring to the incident specifically, Lana said:
“You blame Russia for the recent current events.”
Everyone likely knew what she referenced and it was in poor taste – the line is already garnering negative responses online which could further prompt WWE to cool off the gimmick…
Can't believe WWE used Flight MH17 – 'current events' – as cheap heat in the Rusev v Swagger match. That's not cool. #WWEBattleground

Are Lana & Rusev seriously making mention of MH17, using it to get heat? I was worried they would, but I'm still shocked. #WWEBattleground

Wondered how WWE would handle the MH17/Rusev thing. Didn't expect this.
