WWE possibly considering ”Queen Of The Ring” all-women’s pay-per-view next year

Ever since the women’s revolution in WWE started, female superstars have been getting more opportunities, taking part in historic matches and making headlines. From the first female Hell in a Cell match to the upcoming first-ever women’s TLC match featuring Asuka, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, women’s wrestling is the best it has ever been right now.

It seems another gimmick will be introduced for the female superstars in 2019. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed the possibility of WWE introducing the King of the Ring tournament for the women.

According to Dave, there are talks of having a “Queen of the Ring” tournament next year. He noted that it was only an idea being thrown around at this point. However, WWE is definitely looking for ideas for yet another all-female pay-per-view in 2019.

WWE Evolution was the first-ever all-female pay-per-view, which took place in October. This would be the second event to be exclusive to female superstars.

Bad Blood Money aka Crown Jewel was King of the Ring.

Yeah it was great when it was a PPV and for the most part was used to elevate stars to the next level (or in Edge’s words, those who didn’t Billy Gunn it).
Once it ended up being a throw away concept on the main TV shows it was very hit or miss … mostly miss.
It did absolutely zero for the likes of Sheamus and Wade Barrett, and in fact possibly hurt them. And not much for William Regal for that much. (I wonder why the last 3 people to win it were all UK/Ireland guys?)

I would say the only one to get anything from it once it went to TV was Booker T.
But that was because Booker truly embraced it and made what was a ridiculous angle into comedy gold.

KotR used to be great, and WWE had the opportunity to keep it alive after the brand split and have it be meaningful, with the finals being a Raw vs. SD star every year. They did that once, in 2002, and then dropped the tournament proper thereafter. It was one of many “Genius” moves on Vince’s part.

Though I agree with you, the whole “Queen” thing is silly. On the one hand I get it, but it doesn’t stop it from sounding silly. Chikara did that in 2016, when the Sendai Girls won the King of Trios tournament, they called them the “Queen of Trios”. Again, I get it. But it sounded silly.

    Okay lol

Firstly the King of the ring tournament is dead and has not mean anything for years now, so why bother doing a female version.
Secondly, Queen of the ring sounds dreadful. Just does not have the same ring to it.
