- WWE released the following statement on their website last night:

WWE defends itself
Written: October 20, 2010

Due to what the WWE considers malicious and misleading attacks reported by some members of the media, the company on Monday began a global initiative to defend itself called “Stand Up for WWE” which has resulted in yet more false allegations.

“World Wrestling Entertainment will not be bullied or intimidated by whining allegations intended to censor our freedom of speech,” said Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO of WWE.

WWE will fervently fight against any attempt to muzzle or trample its First Amendment rights. Our fans, employees and performers are united in this grassroots effort to “Stand Up for WWE.”

@orkyboy i am happy to report that wwe is losing money and fans to ufc and tna. wwe lost revenue from several sorces mags etc ppvs are down so i guess old hosts and midgets and talk talk talk are not paying off are they?

  • Flying Papa Schmaps

WWE should go back to TV14, so I can see some booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobs!!!!!!

  • Orkyboy

    @erik

That is the product WWe sells and has nothing to do with freedom of speech.

Everything that done and said in WWe is aimed at a specific audience. All that has happened is that Vince wants to target a younger audience again, become parent friendly and sell lots of merchandise (where the real money is).

The Attitude Era was the abberation, not the current PG-TV shows. In the 80’s it was Hulk Hogan merchandise sold to kids, now it is Cena’s. It is unlikely to change, as it is a working busines model, despite what the handful of internet critics say.

If you don’t enjoy watching WWe try watching something else…it is your right to choose

@ la raptura my point is pg crap and cena winning title all time is shit. I mean when wwe was tv14 wwe divas and superstars could say or do more edger stuff wwe is politcal censorship. do you understand tv14 2002-2007 was better free speech!

  • La Raptura

    @ erik

They can’t let their superstars say and do whatever they want.. How would that be a business then? Do you go to your place of work doing whatever the hell you want? No, I don’t think you do. There are managers, there are bosses and there are owners and you must do what they tell you to do.

  • erik

I find it funny and sad that vince talks about free speech what about free speech od your divas and wrestlers to say what ever they want? This is pathetic just way for linda to get people to feel sorry for her to vote for her. wwe and vince could care less about fans this is all about getting his little wife in senate in ct. pathetic i hope she loses.

Soulshroud- the media is a buisness- ‘news’ especially. It’s about as capitlist as it’s possible to be, the whole point is to be paid by the target audience to tell them what they want to hear. Fox news consumers want to hear crazy right wing nutters so thats what Fox provides. MSNBC’s consumers want to hear crazy centrist nutters, so thats what MSNBC provides. It is pure capitalism, therefore it is as far away from “communistic” as is possible.

  • Jack Mama

Screw WWE. They censor everybody all the time. WWE can go f themselves. They are always pushing Cena down are throats and they censor us by taking away are anti signs for anything or from other companies.

  • Boga

I agree with Code Red and nobody.

..and they can’t please everybody. Even the wrestlers themselves.

  • Soulshroude

@ John… the media claims to represent truth, BUT, they never have even when it regards the WWe. The media are communistic scum that seek to negate the truth and just provide sensationalism for the sake of ratings. Always has been, always will. About time WWe stood up for the little man.

  • Mark

What about all the wrestlers first amendment rights that the WWE has treated like crap over the years!!!!!

  • nobody

    Nope, different issue Punk:

by taking signs away they’re defending their product which they have a right to do.

  • Punk Rocks

Interesting that they say “World Wrestling Entertainment will not be bullied or intimidated by whining allegations intended to censor our freedom of speech,” and “WWE will fervently fight against any attempt to muzzle or trample its First Amendment rights” but yet confiscate any sign or t-shirt off the fans that they don’t like during any of their shows.

  • john

Honestly the media say the represent the truth, and when it comes to wrestling they dont, so these media outlets should be taken seriously.

  • Code Red

Well that’s right actually. It is their freedom of expression at stake here. All these liberal snots are the ones who want something to blame for influencing their children, but fail to look at their own parenting.
