- WWEDVDNews reports that WWE will be releasing a new ECW DVD this year as Shock Entertainment, the official WWE distributor for Australia, has the set on their list of DVD’s scheduled to be released later this year.

“WWE: Biggest Matches in ECW History” looks to be released in Australia on June 6th, which means it would hit other locations worldwide around the same time. It’s scheduled to be released as a three-disc DVD and a two-disc Blu-ray. Here’s the synopsis from Shock:

“All new 3 DVD set, collecting The 25 greatest matches in ECW History! Extreme Championship Wrestling ran from 1992 to 2001, founded in Philadelphia. Their weekly TV show ‘Hardcore TV’, ran from 1993-2000, and they also ran 21 Pay-Per-View events from 1997-2001.

ECW was known for its hardcore and irreverent style, and it’s rowdy and raucous audiences. It launched Sports Entertainment legends such as Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, Taz, Terry Funk, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Cactus Jack, Raven and more.”

    @ Kane Resurrected

You’re a bit slow but that’s alright. I LOVE ECW. I own all the DVDs I referenced, which is why I’ll probably pass on this upcoming set because it won’t feature anything I haven’t already seen.

  • Diesel

@Kane Ressurrected it got into financial trouble unfortunately & TNN fucked Heyman over as they wouldn’t allow him to have ECW on their network, so he had to file for bankruptcy. Wrestling hasn’t been the same since :(

  • venom

I hope this DVD isn’t going to make Tommy Dreamer start talking in interviews again. Because he’ll ramble about how his feud with Raven was as good as Micheals/Hart feud.

  • Diesel

Well as long as they have the essentials:
    Mike Awesome vs Mastato Tanaka
    Jerry Lynn vs RVD
    Taz vs Bam Bam Bigelow

    I’ll be happy :)

The only other thing is there are still a few ECW guys that are either now dead (Mike Awesome) or contracted to TNA such as The Dudleyz for example which is a shame, but I’m sure they’ll come up with something. As long as they don’t add any of that new WWE “ECW” crap (I’m sorry but as a long time fan I HATED what Vince did to ECW) then I’ll be fine with it.

  • heyfit

We wanna see Chris Benoit vs Sabu but it’s never gonna be on the DVD.

  • Bill

It better be unrated. This is ECW we’re talking about!….. & not the WWE brand!

  • poko

ECW launched Cactus Jack and Terry Funk? WWE marketing needs to calm down a little.

  • La spice

I think it would be a good DVD as long as there is some raven matches on at least 1 of the 3 disk

  • TS93

The only WWECW matches worthy of being on the DVD are RVD vs Cena when ECWs revival seemed promising, and RVD vs Hardcore Holly when Holly got the ovation after his back was sliced open and he finished the match anyway

  • PinkSinCara

Oh and the ECW Extreme Rules dvd :)

  • PinkSinCara

I doubt any of these matches differ from what was released on The Rise and Fall of ECW DVD, Bloodsport: ECW’s most violent matches, and the first two One Night Stand pay per views (05-06). I’ll be passing on this one

  • Myers

I am hoping since the timeline they give is for the original ECW that nothing from WWECW will be on this.

  • Tom… Just Tom

A comilation of Taz matches should be added, especially the Taz vs Sabu match at the 1st ppv and when he became ECW champ.

  • Dave

The 2 out of 3 falls match between Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko has to be on there.
And for gods sake make sure the Elimination Chamber from December to Dismember is left off it.
