WWE SmackDown Live Results for 9/20/16

Here are the results from tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live (courtesy of PWInsider):

 


 

Tonight, Dean Ambrose faces John Cena.  We will also see Dolph Ziggler get a shot at the Intercontinental Title against Miz.

We are in Birmingham, Alabama and your announcers are Mauro Ranallo, John Layfield, and David Otunga.

 Daniel Bryan is in the ring and there is a carpet and table so that means it is contract signing time.

Daniel says in less than three weeks, the Smackdown Women’s Title will be defended for the first time at No Mercy.  Tonight, we will have the first ever Smackdown Women’s Contract signing.  Daniel says things will stay civil, and he tells the crowd not to boo that.  He says it is a new era and that is how it will be.

Daniel brings out the Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch, first.

Daniel reminds Becky things will stay civil.

Becky says she has her thick skin on.

Daniel brings out the number one contender, Alexa Bliss.

Alexa asks Becky if she meant thick skin, but she has the skin of a rhino so she might want to use some lotion.

Becky tells Alexa while she is getting ready for a pageant, she is getting ready for a fight.

Alexa says Becky does not fit the role of champion, but Becky disagrees.  Alexa says your role in life is not to be a champion.  Your role is to succeed, but fail miserably.  Then you go back to doing what you do best, be the lovable Superstar that doesn’t quite get it.  You know that and everyone knows that.  You are going to lose the title because you were not born to be a champion, but you were born to be a loser.

Becky says she was born to live in Dublin and have a job that barely had her meet her ends.  She says she watched too much TV and she heard that if you wanted to be something you can achieve it.  Becky says she wanted to be a champion.  She was not born to be a champion, but she has poured her heart and soul into this so she could hold the title over her head.  Becky says she wants this more than Alexa and she will rip off Alexa’s head to keep it.  She was not born a champion, but she is a champion.

Alexa says that was so inspirational.  Alexa says between the two of them, Becky was destined for second place because Alexa says she was born to be a champion.  She says she will expose Becky as a one hit wonder. 

Alexa takes the title belt and hits Becky with it and then she signs the contract, throws the contract at Becky, and pushes the table onto Becky.

Becky gets up and she attacks Alexa as Alexa walks up the ramp.  Alexa goes to the back.

Becky goes back into the ring to sign the contract.

The Usos walk in the back and we see their opponents, American Alpha walking in the back as well.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Daniel Bryan is walking in the back.  Miz stops by with Maryse and Miz says they have a problem.  Daniel says it cannot be about the contract.  Miz says it is about his title match.  Bryan says they can cancel the match and Miz like the idea.  Daniel says if the match is cancelled, they can cancel the contract.  Daniel asks Miz if he didn’t read the contract.  Daniel tells Miz they renegotiated the contract and Miz defends the title.  No match tonight and no contract.  He says that will make it hard for Miz to do what Daniel cannot do anymore.  Daniel asks Miz if they have a problem and Miz says no.

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan are shown in the back earlier and Chad talks about how the Usos tried to end his career, but he is still standing. Jason says the Usos made it personal.  Chad says tonight is the start of their journey to become the tag team champions.

Match Number One:  Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso versus Chad Gable and Jason Jordan in a Number One Contender Match

Gable and Jimmy start things off and Chad with a take down.  He goes after Jey and then Gable with an exploder on Jimmy for a near fall.  Chad with a spinning knee drop to the leg.  Jordan tags in and he hits a knee drop and works on the leg.  

We see Heath Slater and Rhyno watching from ‘THE WWE Angle’ as they eat some crackers and Cheese Wiz.  

Gable tags in and they hit a double drop kick.  Jimmy sends Gable to the apron and then Gable kicks Jey.  Jimmy grabs the leg and then Jey hits Gable from behind and ties up the leg in the ropes.  Jimmy with a thrust kick to the leg and we go to commercial.

We are back and Jimmy with a splash to the leg for a near fall.  Jimmy continues to work on the leg.  We see Jimmy suplex Chad’s leg into the ropes.  Jimmy sends Chad into the corner and he kicks Gable in the leg.  Chad knocks Jey off the apron and then Chad back drops Jimmy over the top rope to the floor.  Chad crawls to the corner but Jey stops him.  Jordan is able to make the tag and Jordan with punches to Jey.  Jordan sends Jey into the air and then to the mat.  Jordan with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex to Jimmy and then to Jey.  Jordan with running shoulders to Jimmy and Jey and he follows with an Exploder to Jey for a near fall.

Jordan puts Jey on the turnbuckles and he sets for an overhead belly-to-belly superplex but Jey pushes Jason off.  Jey with head butts and Jordan falls to the mat again.  Jimmy tags in and Jey with a super kick and Jimmy with a frog splash but Gable makes the save.  All four men are in the ring and Jey sends Chad to the floor and he holds his knee.  Jordan blocks a super kick and Jordan with an overhead head and arm suplex to Jey.  Jordan with a clothesline to Jimmy and both men are down.  Gable wants to make the tag but Jordan refuses.  Jordan with a sunset flip to Jimmy.  Jey tags in and he clips the knee.  Jimmy and Jey with a double super kick and Jey with a superfly splash for the three count.

Winners:  Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso

Rhyno and Heath Slater are in the back and Heath says it looks like they will be facing The Usos.  They beat them already and they will beat them again.  Slater says he will get the WWE Universe behind them.  He wants the crowd to finish his chant when he says Rhy, you say No.

The Usos enter and Jimmy says they got lucky at Backlash.  They had to compete twice at Backlash.  Jimmy says he should knock the crackers off Rhyno’s plate.  Jimmy tells them to hand over the titles now, or they can take out Slater’s knee so him and his 26 raggedy ass kids can go back to the mudhole he came from. 

The Usos leave.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Jack Swagger joins the commentary team for the next match.

Match Number Two:  Apollo Crews versus Baron Corbin

Corbin slaps Crews and Crews punches back.  Crews with a flying boot and then he hits a fallaway slam for a near fall.  Corbin goes to the floor and Crews follows and he connects with forearms.  Crews sends Corbin into the ringside barrier.  Crews with an enzuigiri and then he sends Corbin back into the ring and Crews gets a near fall.  Corbin drop kicks Crews through the ropes and to the floor.  Corbin with forearms to the back of the head.  Corbin puts Crews against the ring post and stretches him as the referee warns him.  Corbin with a drop kick to the back while Crews is against the post.  Corbin with End of Days for the three count.

Winner:  Baron Corbin

After the match, Corbin goes over to the announce table and Swagger gets up.  Corbin tells Swagger he should have stayed on Raw.

Dean Ambrose is in a cage in the back and he getting ready for his match against John Cena.

We go to commercial.

We are back with Curt Hawkins facts.

Nikki Bella and Naomi walk in the back and they are asked about the women’s division and how will they keep up the momentum in their match.  Naomi says she feels so amazing on Tuesdays because it is Glow Time.  The glow is about confidence and being yourself through whatever might bring you down.  She says Nikki has the glow.  Naomi says the glow went away for Natalya.  She says she is corrupt now and Naomi says she will make sure Natalya feels the glow.  Nikki says Carmella has had it out for her.  Carmella wants to make a name for herself.  Nikki mentions she has gotten over a tough injury and she is treating every match like her last one.

Renee Young is with Dolph Ziggler.  She asks him about his match against Miz and how will it be different.  Dolph says it always ends up the same.  He will give everything he has to win and he says anything can happen tonight.  Dolph says they have their resident Brangelina with Miz and Maryse.  He is a coward and cheater.  He calls Miz a scumbag, but he is also the champion.  Miz desperately clings to his title.  Dolph says he is desperate to prove he belongs.  Dolph says he was not supposed to be World Champion but he is.  He was not supposed to be a Kent State Hall of Famer but he is.  He will shut up Miz and take that title.  He says he will win the whole thing.

Match Number Three:  Dolph Ziggler versus Miz (with Maryse) for the Intercontinental Title

Ziggler goes for the leg and gets a near fall.  Ziggler with an elbow and body scissors but Miz gets to the ropes.  Miz pushes Ziggler and Ziggler pushes back.  Ziggler wtih a waist lock take down and he gets a near fall.  Miz goes to the floor and Ziggler follows.  Miz misses an elbow drop and Ziggler with punches to the back of the head and he applies a sleeper on Miz but Miz gets to the ropes and the floor.  Ziggler follows and he connects with a clothesline.  Miz with a drop kick when Maryse distracts Ziggler.  Miz with a drop kick to send Ziggler to the floor.  Miz sends Ziggler into the ringside barrier.  

 

Miz sends Ziggler back into the ring and Miz goes up top and hits a double sledge.  Miz sets for the Skull Crushing Finale but Ziggler with elbows to escape the hold.  Ziggler goes for the hesitation DDT but Miz throws Ziggler to the mat.  Miz with kicks that remind people of Daniel Bryan.  Ziggler with punches after blocking a kick and Ziggler is sent shoulder first into the ring post.  Miz with a running boot to the head for a near fall.  Miz stretches Ziggler and puts his head against the spine.  Miz puts his knee in Ziggler’s back.  Ziggler wtih a reversal and Miz reverses back.  Ziggler with a chop.  Ziggler wtih two flying clotheslines and a splash into the corner.  Miz sends Ziggler into the ring post shoulder first.  Miz with a running drop kick into the corner and he hits a second one.

Miz hits the Awesome Clothesline and he goes up top but Ziggler hits a drop kick as Miz comes off the turnbuckles and both men are down.  Ziggler with a kick and he tries for a Fameasser but Miz blocks it and hot shots Ziggler and he tries for the Skull Crushing Finale but Ziggler with a snap mare and hesitation DDT for a near fall.  Ziggler clotheslines Miz and both men go over the top rope to the floor and we go to commercial.

We are back and Ziggler goes for a superplex but Miz stops Ziggler and connects with forearms to the back and he tries for a sunset flip power bomb but Ziggler holds on to the ropes and Miz is able to hit a slingshot sit out power bomb but he can only get a two count.  Miz with knees to the hamstring and he tries for a figure four leg lock but Ziggler counters into a sleeper but Miz gets to the ropes.  Miz with a boot and he gets a near fall.  Ziggler with a victory roll to counter the Skull Crushing Finale.  Ziggler with a Fameasser for a near fall.

Ziggler goes for the Zig Zag but Miz holds the ropes and Miz sends Ziggler back to the mat.  Miz runs into an uppercut and then Miz talks to the referee and Maryse tries to interfere but the referee sees it and Maryse is sent to the back.  Miz begs for the referee to keep Maryse at ringside.  Ziggler with a rollup for a near fall.  Miz with a rollup for a near fall.  Ziggler with a Zig Zag for a near fall.  Miz rolls to the floor and he crawls to get his title belt and he wants to go home.  Ziggler sends Miz into the ring steps and he sends Miz back into the ring.

Miz sprays Ziggler in the face while the referee takes care of the title belt in the ring.  Miz with the Skull Crushing Finale for the three count.

Winner:  Miz

Randy Orton walks in the back as we go to commercial.

Match Number Four:  Randy Orton versus Erick Rowan

Orton goes for the RKO right away but Rowan pushes him away.  Rowan with a spinning power slam and then he punches Orton and drops an elbow or two.  Rowan with a forearm but Orton kicks Rowan.  Orton with forearms but Rowan with a kick and head butt.  Rowan with a drop kick and Orton goes to the floor.  Rowan sends Orton into the ring steps and then he sends Orton back into the ring as Rowan poses.  Orton kicks Rowan as he tries to get back into the ring and Orton hits the IEDDT.  Orton looks around and then he twists to the mat and pounds it before he hits the RKO and gets the three count.

Winner:  Randy Orton

After the match, the lights go out and then they go back on but the ring only contains Orton and a lamb mask.

The lights go out again and Bray appears on the TitanTron.  Bray says the Viper strikes again.  Bray says they love you, but they are bonded by the unholiest of matrimonies.  Til death do us part.  You are still just a man, a man who can die at any given moment.  Bray says he is a God and a God can never die.  He tells Randy to RUN.

We go to commercial.

Match Number Five:  Natalya and Carmella versus Nikki Bella and Naomi

Nikki with a forearm after Natalya knocked Naomi off the apron.  Nikki with a fireman’s carry.  Natalya with a Sharpshooter and Carmella pulls Nikki out of the ring and sends her into the ringside barrier and the referee calls for the bell.

Winners:  Naomi and Nikki Bella (by disqualification)

After the match, Naomi attacks Natalya in the ring and checks on Nikki

AJ Styles is in the back polishing his title belt and AJ is asked about the rivalry with John Cena and Dean Ambrose.  AJ says he has no rivalry with either of them because he beat both of them.  He is the Face that Runs the Place and the Champ that Runs the Camp.  Why is the champ in a Triple Threat Match at No Mercy?  The only way he loses the title is if he does not have to be pinned.  Dean and John are going to rip each other apart tonight and AJ will sit back, relax and soak it all in.  The Champ is was, and will always be here.

Match Number Six:  John Cena versus Dean Ambrose

They lock up and Dean with a side head lock and take down.  Ambrose with a shoulder tackle and Cena backs into the corner.  Cena with a side head lock.  Dean with elbows and Cena with a shoulder tackle.  Cena gets Dean on his shoulders but Dean gets to the mat and Dean goes for the double underhook DDT but Cena escapes.  Cena with a side head lock take down.  Cena with a shoulder tackle and Irish whip but he misses a shoulder and hits the ring post and goes to the floor.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Dean with punches and chops followed by running forearms.  Dean with a clothesline followed by a running forearm into the corner.  Dean follows with a bulldog.  Dean goes for the double underhook DDT but Cena counters with an STF.  Ambrose gets to the ropes and Cena breaks the hold. Ambrose sends Cena to the floor.  Ambrose with a suicide dive and both men are down.  Ambrose sends Cena back into the ring and Dean goes up top.  Ambrose wtih the elbow to the chest but Cena rolsl through and gets Dean on his shoulders for an Attitude Adjustment and Dean kicks out at two.

Cena gets Dean up again for an Attitude Adjustment but Dean gets to his feet and Dean hits the double underhook DDT for a near fall.  Both men struggle to get back to their feet and they exchange punches.  Ambrose bounces off the ropes and Cena gets Dean on his shoulders but Ambrose counters with a sunset flip for the three count.

Winner:  Dean Ambrose

After the match,. AJ Styles attacks Cena on the floor with a Phenomenal Forearm off the ringside barrier and then he hits a Pele Kick on Ambrose in the ring.

Daniel Bryan comes out and he tells AJ that was Phenomenal.  Last week, Shane promised Dean a one-on-one title rematch.  Daniel says that match will happen . . . next week on Smackdown.

Ambrose with a double underhook DDT on AJ as we go to credits.
