WWE SmackDown Live Event Results – March 6th, 2010

Hey, just got back from a Smackdown show in Pullman, WA. The Beasley Colliseum was about half full (Pullman’s not that big), with the upper deck completely empty. Still, the crowd that was there was loud.
R-Truth d. Dolph Ziggler – Got in a little late and only saw the end. Standard finisher from R-Truth.
The Great Khali d. Mike Knox – Knox was actually big enough for Khali to work with, so Khali was better than average. TV doesn’t do his size justice (or Knox’s, for that matter). Knox played a good cowardly role, and had Khali in a few leg holds during the match, which was interesting to see. Khali got the win with the two-handed chokeslam.
John Morrison d. Luke Gallows w/Serena – Back and forth with a few interferences by Serena. Morrison was impressive; he hit a nice Northern Lights Suplex, and later got the pinfall with the corkscrew split-legged moonsault after a Moonlight Drive. Gallows was pretty wooden. It appears he was cut over his right eye during the match.
Goldust d. Tyler Reks – Goldust got a pretty big pop. Decent match; Reks was really mediocre, but Goldust is good at getting crowd reactions. He won with a Final Cut (suplex into snap swinging neckbreaker).
The Hart Foundation w/Natalya d. Slam Master J and Jimmy Wang Yang – The Foundation attacked Goldust on his way to the back, with Yang and J making the save. Pretty standard tag match; Hart Foundation got the win with their two-person clothesline.
Intercontinental Title Match between Drew McIntyre and Kane ended in a double count-out. McIntyre said he’s not a loser, and that he will go to Wrestlemania. After some major heat, he says he’s leaving and not letting the crowd see him, but is stopped by Kane’s music. McIntyre did a lot of stalling to start the match, gaining a lot of heat for it. Kane hit all his spots in a back and forth match. The fight went outside the ring, and both were counted out. Kane dodged McIntyre trying to hit him with the belt, and hit a chokeslam.
Intermission
Beth Phoenix and Tiffany d. Natalya and Layla – Usual Diva fare; Phoenix and Natalya have talent, but didn’t square off much. Phoenix pinned Layla following a Glam Slam (elevated double-chickenwing into wheelbarrow facebuster).
Ezekiel Jackson d. Matt Hardy – Good pop for Hardy. Jackson is a very imposing figure in-person; his muscularity is ridiculous. Good back and forth match with lots of “Hardy” chants. What Hardy lacks in mic skills he makes up for in crown interaction. Ezekiel gets the win with the Book of Ezekiel (I think that’s what it’s called; basically a standing rock bottom/book-end).
Chris Jericho d. Rey Mysterio, CM Punk w/Straight-Edge Society, and Edge in a Fatal Four-way for the World Heavyweight Championship – Fantastic match; CM Punk makes an excellent heel in all aspects, and TV doesn’t capture how awesome a flying Rey Mysterio is. Edge got the loudest pop of the night, and Jericho was great at antagonizing the crowd. Match was pretty much faces vs. heels; the ending came with Mysterio hitting a 6-1-9 on Jericho, Punk hitting a solid GTS on Mysterio, and Punk getting speared by Edge. Jericho threw Edge out of the ring and pinned Mysterio to retain.
All in all a pretty good night. Smackdown could use a few more solid upper-mid-carders, which I hope they’ll get with the draft coming up after Wrestlemania. WWE is much better live than on TV.
