WWE SmackDown Report – 5/9/14

We start off this week’s show with a look at the Battle Royal from Raw where Dean Ambrose’s nearly one year title reign as United States Champion ended and the start of Sheamus’ reign as the new Champion. Then the Wyatts defeated The Shield later in the night and that was not it for the Shield because Evolution attacked the already defeated Shield.

Match Number One: Sheamus versus Dean Ambrose for the United States Champion

Ambrose goes for the leg and he takes Sheamus to the mat. Ambrose rakes the face while he continues to work on the legs. Sheamsu with a side head lock take down. Sheamus with a shoulder tackle and then he blocks a hip toss and connects with a short arm clothesline and he gets a near fall. Sheamus wraps the arm in the ropes and Ambrose pushes him away. Sheamus with a take down and he drops a knee to the arm. Sheamus with an arm bar.

Sheamus with a top wrist lock and then they exchange punches. Sheamus takes control and he punches Ambrose but Ambrose with a Thesz Press and they fight to the floor. Sheamus with a punch to the midsection and he sends Ambrose into the announce table. Ambrose punches Sheamus and Ambrose with a suplex on the floor. Ambrose returns to the ring and he breaks the count.

Sheamus with a punch and he hits a Finlay slam on the floor. We go to commercial.

We are back and we are back in the ring. Sheamus with a quarter nelson and chin lock but Ambrose with punches. Ambrose with a cross body and punches to Sheamus. Ambrose with a shoulder in the corner but Sheamus with an Irish whip. Ambrose moves and Sheamus goes into the ring post and to the floor. Ambrose with a suicide dive and then he sends Sheamus back into the ring. Ambrose goes to the turnbuckles and he connects with a forearm to the back of the leg.

Ambrose drives the leg to the mat and he applies the figure four leg lock and Sheamus is able to get to the ropes. Ambrose releases the hold. Sheamus kicks Ambrose and hits a uranage back breaker for a near fall. Sheamus with a boot to the midsection and then he applies the Cloverleaf. Ambrose gets to the ropes and Sheamus releases the hold.

Sheamus pulls up Ambrose’s shirt to reveal taped ribs and Sheamus with forearms to the chest from the apron. Ambrose gets back to his feet when Sheamus brings him back into the ring. Sheamus with a kick to the chest but Ambrose bounces out of the ropes with a lariat. Both men are down. They get back to their feet and they exchange punches. Sheamus with a kick but Ambrose with a knee.

Sheamus with a Brogue Kick that sends Ambrose to the floor. Ambrose crawls to the ring and he gets back in at nine. Sheamus is shocked that Ambrose got back into the ring. Sheamus sets for another Brogue Kick but not with the usual gusto. Ambrose staggers into a Brogue Kick and Sheamus gets the three count.

Winner: Sheamus

We go to commercial.

We are back and Paul Heyman is at the announce table and Paul reminds us that his client Brock Lesnar defeated the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. He calls Cesaro the next top tier talent in the WWE.

Wade Barrett comes out and he says that everyone is enjoying the new climate with Bad News Barrett as your Intercontinental Champion. He has some bad news. Climate Change is not only sweeping through the WWE, but the entire nation. Through your apathy, extreme droughts and super storms are coming to you soon. Soon, you will all be forgotten pieces of history, like Big E.

Match Number Two: Cesaro (with Paul Heyman) and Wade Barrett versus Rob Van Dam and Big E

Barrett and Van Dam start off. Van Dam is distracted by Heyman and Cesaro and Barrett with a forearm. Van Dam blocks being sent into the turnbuckles and he connects with a kick and springboard thrust kick. Van Dam goes after Cesaro on the floor. Cesaro misses a clothesline but Barrett does not.

Barrett sends Van Dam back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Barrett with a reverse chin lock. Van Dam with elbows but Barrett pulls Van Dam to the mat by the hair. Barrett mocks the thumbs and Van Dam with a leaping corkscrew drop kick. Cesaro and Big E tag in and Big E with clotheslines and then he avoids a clothesline from Cesaro and Big E with a belly-to-belly suplex. Big E with a Warrior Splash for a near fall. Cesaro with an Irish whip but he runs into the corner and Big E with a uranage for a near fall.

Barrett breaks up the cover and Van Dam takes care of Barrett. Van Dam tries for a spin kick on Cesaro but Cesaro drops down and he kicks Big E. Barrett pulls Van Dam out of the ring and sends him into the ringside barrier. Cesaro hits the Gotch Style Neutralizer for the three count.

Winners: Cesaro and Wade Barrett

We are back and Lana makes her way to the stage to pose and speak. She starts off in Russian and she says that there is only one nation that made foul language illegal in the arts. There is only one nation that dares to set the standards and morals in ethics. This nation is Russia. Mother Russia is led by a true leader who practices what he preaches.

The crowd chants USA and Lana seems bored by the fans. She mentions Vladimir Putin. America, change your ways and follow this true leader. He is a nation builder and he should have won the Nobel Peace Prize. She introduces the man who resides in Russia . . . the Bulgarian Brute . . . Rusev.

Match Number Three: Kofi Kingston versus Rusev (with Lana)

Kofi with kicks but Rusev sends Kofi into the corner. Kofi avoids Rusev but Rusev blocks a kick and he sends Kofi to the mat and then Kofi goes to the floor. Kofi drops Rusev on the ropes but Kofi is met with a super kick when he returns to the ring. Rusev with a kick to the ribs. Rusev with more kicks and then he sends Kofi into the turnbuckles. Rusev blocks a kick and he sends Kofi into the ropes.

Kofi with a pendulum kick followed by a drop kick but Rusev stays on his feet. Rusev tries for a power bomb but Kofi tries to counter with a sunset flip. Rusev stays on his feet. Kofi with a drop kick followed by a cross body . Rusev with a uranage slam and then Lana tells Rusev the safe word and he stomps on Kofi’s back and applies the Accolade and Kofi taps out.

Winner: Rusev

The Wyatts appear on the TitanTron. Bray says that there is such beauty in a flame. It holds no prejudice. Anything can burn, you just need the right spark. Mountains must crumble, oceans must boil. Everything they build turn to ash. We are slaves to judgment. It is judgment that tells him to survive and adapt. It is John’s judgment that tells him to fear Bray.

It is not the fear that sets men apart. It is the distance they are willing to go. Where they are going to go, no one ever comes back.

Luke says ‘Burn’ and we go to commercial.

Match Number Four: Fandango and Layla El versus Emma and Santino Marella

The men start off and Santino with kicks at air before they lock up. Fandango with a side head lock and shoulder tackle. Santino with a split and leap frog followed by a hip toss and arm drags into a side head lock. Fandango with shoulders in the corner. Fandango with a hard Irish whip and then he goes to the turnbuckles and gyrates on the turnbuckles before missing a knee drop.

Emma tags in and she hits a Thesz Press on Layla and she slams Layla’s head into the mat. Layla with an Irish whip but she misses a charge into the corner. Emma with the DilEmma. Emma rolls across the ring and sets for the stomping cross body into the corner and she connects. Emma pulls out the pink cobra.

Santino charges at Fandango but Fandango drops down and Santino goes over the top rope to the floor. Emma gets distracted and Layla with a rollup for the three count.

Winners: Layla El and Fandango

After the match, Fandango and Layla dance on the stage until Fandango looks deep into Layla’s eyes and he kisses Layla.

We are back with a look back at what happened on Raw with the Shield and Evolution.

Mark Henry appears in the Goldman Box. He says that not long ago the Shield thought three on one was a fair fight. He was a recipient of one of those beatings. He says that he will welcome Roman into the Hall of Pain because that is what he do.

Match Number Five: Roman Reigns versus Mark Henry

They lock up and Henry with a clean break. They lock up again and Henry sends Reigns into the turnbuckles. Henry says that he won’t take it easy because Reigns is hurt. Reigns holds his midsection. Reigns punches Henry and Henry punches back. Henry with a knee to the midsection followed by forearms to the back.

Henry with a hard Irish whip. Henry with a kick to the ribs and then Henry sends Reigns to the floor. Henry stretches Reigns around the ring post as the referee warns him. Reigns with a leaping clothesline and then he gets back to his feet and he hits a running clothesline into the corner. Henry with a shoulder tackle when Reigns tries for a second clothesline into the corner.

Henry sets for a Vader Bomb but Reigns gets to his feet and he hits Henry in the back with forearms. Reigns gets Henry on his shoulders for a Samoan Drop. Reigns with a spear for the three count.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Match Number Six: Fernando, Diego, and El Torito versus Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, and Hornswoggle (with Jinder Mahal)

Drew and Fernando start things off and Drew backs Fernadno into the corenr and he misses a punch. Fernando with chopsbut Drew with an Irish whip. Fernando tries to float over but Drew side steps him and kicks Fernando in the ribs. Drew gets a near fall and then he punches Fernando. Slater tags in and he kicks Fernando. Slater with an elbow drop and he tags Drew back in. Slater with a punch to Fernando and Drew with a running knee. Drew and Heath slam Hornswoggle onto Fernando.

Hornswoggle kicks Fernando and he tags Drew back in. Drew with punches and a side head lock and punch. Drew draws Torito into the ring and he tries to go after Fernando but Fernando with a head scissors that sends Drew into the turnbuckles. Slater tags in and he knocks Diego off the apron. Fernando with a flapjack and both men are down. Diego tags in and so does drew. Diego with a drop kick to knock Jinder off the apron.

Drew and Diego both go for cross body presses and they are both down. Hornswoggle and Torito tag in and Torito bites Hornswoggle. Hornswoggle with a punch and he does some air guitar. Torito with a kick to the head and then he gores Hornswoggle to the floor. Hornswoggle freaks out and he yells at Slater for laughing at him.

Torito with a head butt to the midsection and he tries for a sunset flip but Hornswoggle does not go over. Hornswoggle drops down but Torito moves. Torito with a splash but Slater breaks up the cover and then he throws Torito away and he sends Hornswoggle into their corner so he can make the tag.

Slater misses a knee in the corner and a splash in the corner. Torito with a moonsault for the three count.

Winners: Fernando, Diego, and El Torito

We take a look at what happened on Raw on Monday with Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan.

Match Number Seven: Batista versus Seth Rollins

Rollins has his right forearm wrapped and Batista sends Rollins into the corner and he connects with a shoulder. Rollins with a knee and punches. Rollins with a drop kick but he misses a splash into the corner. Batista with a clothesline to the back of the head. Rollins with a kick and drop kick that sends Batista through the ropes and to the floor. Rollins teases a suicide dive but Batista moves out of the way. Rollins goes for a baseball slide but Batista pulls up the ring skirt and he punches Rollins.

Batista hangs Rollins over the apron and he kicks Rollins in the head and Rollins falls to the floor. Batista sends Rollins back into the ring and he connects with a forearm across the throat while hanging over the apron. Rollins with punches but Batista with a shoulder and a neck breaker. Batista pulls Rollins from the ropes and Rollins lands on his back.

Batista throws Rollins to the floor and Batista follows. Batista Irish whips Rollins into the ring steps. Batista sends Rollins back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Batista with a rear chin lock. Rollins gets to his feet and he punches Rollins but Rollins is sent to the mat and Batista returns to the reverse chin lock.

Batista sends Rollins into the turnbuckles. Batista with kicks to Rollins’ injured arm and then he wraps the arm in the ropes. Batista with a hard Irish whip and then he hits a suplex for a near fall. Rollins rolls away from Batista. Batista pulls Rollins out of the corner but Rollins lands on his feet. Rollins moves and Batista goes into the ring post.

Rollins with a running forearm into the corner and then he hits a second one. Rollins punches Batista in the corner and he follows with kicks. Rollins tries for a neck breaker but Batista avoids it. Rollins with a wraparound clothesline and then he hits a back heel kick. Batista tries for a belly-to-back suplex but Rollins lands on his feet.

Rollins with a forearm and then Rollins is sent to the apron. Rollins with an enzuigiri that staggers Batista. Rollins goes for a springboard move but Batista moves and Rollins lands on his feet. Batista with a spinebuster and then he shakes the ropes and sets for the Batista Bomb.

Rollins punches Batista and he gets out of the hold and Rollins with an enzuigiri that sends Batista to the floor. Rollins goes up top for a cross body but Batista sees Rollins and he sends Rollins into the announce table.

Both men are down as the referee starts his count. Batista gets back into the ring at nine while Rollins is not moving and the referee makes the ten count.

Winner: Batista

After the match, Batista pushes the referee out of the way while he checks on Rollins. Batista sends Rollins back into the ring and he hits the Batista Bomb.

Match Number Eight: Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan versus Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, and John Cena

Cena and Rowan start things off and Cena with punches. Cena with a splash into the corner followed by a suplex. Harper tags in and Cena asks Wyatt if he wants some. Wyatt tells Harper some strategy. Harper misses a punch and Cena with a punch followed by an Irish whip and bulldog.

Cena with a boot to Harper and he tags in Jey. Hey with an uppercut or two. Jey with a shoulder in the corner and Jimmy tags in and hits a running forearm into the corner. Jimmy with an uppercut. Harper with an Irish whip but Jimmy with a boot and rollup for a near fall. Harper with a double thrust to Jimmy followed by a kick. Rowan tags in and he punches Jimmy and follows with a forearm. Jimmy floats over on an Irish whip and he punches Rowan.

Jey tags in and he punches Rowan. Jey with a kick but Rowan sends Jey into the turnbuckles and then he connects with a shoulder that sends Jey to the apron. Harper tags in and they stand on Jey’s chest. Harper with a European uppercut and an uppercut. Harper slingshots Jey’s throat into the middle rope and then he gets a near fall. Wyatt wants to tag in and Harper obliges.

Wyatt with a boot to Jey followed by a punch. Wyatt with an elbow drop followed by forearms to Jey. Wyatt punches Jey but Jey punches back. Wyatt with a splash into the corner and then Wyatt bends backwards to look at Jey. Wyatt with the crab walk. Wyatt with a punch to Jey.

Jey with a punch but Wyatt with a knee to the midsection. Jey with an uppercut to Wyatt and then one to Harper. Jey drops down and Wyatt goes over the top rope to the floor. Rowan rolls Wyatt back in and Harper tags in and he connects with an elbow to the back before Jey can make the tag. Harper with a front face lock and he does the Gator Roll to Jey and then he applies a side head lock.

Jey with elbows and punches. Jey tries for a slam but Harper shifts his weight to get a lateral press and a near fall. Harper with a boot to the head and Jey is stopped again. Rowan tags in and he kicks Jey in the back and he pulls Jey back into the center of the ring. Rowan with a side head lock and he tries to run Jey into the turnbuckles, but Rowan hits the turnbuckles harder than Jey. Rowan with a slam and he misses a splash.

Wyatt and Jimmy tag in and Jimmy with clotheslines to Wyatt. Jimmy with a savate kick and uppercut. Jimmy with a leg lariat and then a splash into the corner. Jimmy with the running butt splash into the corenr and he gets a near fall. Wyatt misses a clothesline and Cena punches Wyatt from the apron. Jimmy with a savate kick to Wyatt followed by one to Rowan on the apron. Harper tags in and Jimmy with a savate kick to Harper. Jimmy gets a near fall.

Wyatt and Cena fight at ringside and Rowan hits Cena from behind. Jey with a plancha onto Wyatt, Rowan, and Cena. Harper with a discus lariat for the three count.

Winners: Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Bray Wyatt
