WWE SmackDown Report – 7/4/14

This week’s show starts off with a look at Stephanie McMahon gloating over the success at Money in the Bank with Seth Rollins winning the briefcase and John Cena winning the WWE Title and being on the cover of WWE 2K15. We also see highlights from the tag match featuring the four men who will be in the main event at Battleground.

 


 

We are in Trenton, New Jersey and your announcers are John ‘I Love America’ Layfield and Michael ‘Roman Candle’ Cole.

Seth Rollins makes his way to the ring with his briefcase.

Seth says last Monday, he was seconds away from cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on John Cena. John, he has a message for him. He got lucky on Monday night. The clock is still ticking. Not even 24 hours into your 15th reign as champion, you were flat on your back in the center of the ring.

That doesn’t bode too well for you John. The survival rate for everyone drops to zero. That means that sooner, rather than later, he will cash in and become the new World Champion. Seth says to look at his face because soon, this will be the new face of the WWE.

Dean Ambrose’s music plays and he makes his way to the stage.

Dean says that Rollins is delusional. He is talking crazy because he will not get his hands on the title as long as he is around. No matter what plan you and your sugar daddy Triple H concocts, I will be there. He asks Seth how things went on Monday night.

We see highlights of Rollins’ attempted cash in.

Dean says to watch that footage because that is Seth’s life for the next year. That briefcase is a curse. It is every excuse that he needs to ruin Seth’s life, career, and face.

Seth asks if he cares if Dean shows that video. He knows Dean better than anybody and he knows that Dean doesn’t have what it takes to keep it up for a year. He says that Dean got lucky on Monday night. He says that Dean cannot stop him from cashing in this contract.

Dean says of course he can and he will do it right now.

Seth tries to hit Dean with the briefcase but Dean avoids it. Dean and Seth exchange punches in the ring and Randy Orton comes out and he works over Ambrose and Seth makes it two on one.

Roman Reigns’ music plays and he comes to the ring. Orton and Rollins with the early advantage on Reigns when he gets into the ring but Reigns takes over and he works over Orton and Rollins. Ambrose joins in and he attacks Rollins.

Triple H’s music plays and he comes out to the stage. Hunter says that they have made their point so it is time for him to make his point. His point is the only one that matters. If Dean wants to fight, he will get a fight when he faces Randy Orton. Roman, since you like to stick your nose in everyone’s business, if you get involved in the match, you are out of the main event at Battleground.

We go to commercial.

Match Number One: Sheamus versus Alberto Del Rio for the United States Championship

They lock up and Sheamus and Del Rio exchange punches. Sheamus punches Del Rio in the corner and then he kicks him. Del Rio with boots in the corner followed by a snap mare and kick to the back. Del Rio punches Sheamus in the corner and he climbs the turnbuckles for more punches. Del Rio runs into an elbow from Sheamus. Sheamus gets Del Rio on his shoulders for a Finlay Slam.

Sheamus with a knee drop to the head and he punches Del Rio. Sheamus with European uppercuts. Del Rio kicks Sheamus and connects with a clothesline. Del Rio misses a boot to the head but he kicks Sheamus in the head and then he connects with a forearm. Sheamus punches Del Rio and he sends Del Rio into the ringside barrier. Del Rio Irish whips Sheamus into the ring steps.

They go to the apron and Del Rio with a lungblower on the apron and we go to commercial.

We are back and Sheamus with a cross body and both men go over the top rope to the floor. Sheamus holds his wrist while Del Rio has trouble getting up. Del Rio gets back into the ring first and Sheamus follows. Del Rio punches Sheamus but Sheamus punches back. They continue the exchange until Sheamus with a kick. Sheamus with two running double sledges and he goes for the shoulder in the corner but Del Rio gets his feet up.

Del Rio charges at Sheamus and Sheamus with a uranage back breaker for a near fall. Sheamus gets Del Rio on his shoulders but Del Rio gets back to his feet. Del Rio sets for the cross arm breaker but Del Rio takes too long and Sheamus sends Del Rio into the ropes. Del Rio with a DDT and he gets a near fall. Del Rio with punches to Sheamus and then he kicks Sheamus in the head.

Del Rio goes up top and Sheamus stops him with a punch. Sheamus sets for a superplex but Del Rio punches Sheamus and Sheamus falls to the apron. Sheamus with the forearms to the chest while he has Del Rio sitting on the top turnbuckle. Sheamus with a flying shoulder tackle off the turnbuckles. Sheamus looks around and he pounds his chest for the Brogue Kick. Del Rio moves out of the way and Del Rio with a cross arm breaker.

Sheamus prevents the hold from behind properly applies and Sheamus with a Cloverleaf. Del Rio get to the ropes and Sheamus releases the hold. Del Rio with a kick and elbow. Del Rio climbs the turnbuckles but Sheamus gets him on his shoulders. Sheamus tries for White Noise but Del Rio counters into the cross arm breaker. Sheamus escapes and he picks up Del Rio and sends him into the turnbuckles. Sheamus goes for a shoulder in the corner but Del Rio moves and Sheamus hits the turnbuckles.

Del Rio with a super kick and then he goes up top for a moonsault but Del Rio misses when Sheamus moves. Del Rio lands on his feet and Sheamus with a Brogue Kick fro the three count.

Winner: Sheamus

We go to commercial.

We are back and Stardust is in a darkly lit room and he asks rhetorically what is their team name? Is it Lunar Dreams? Is it Cosmic Revelations? Children of Dust? An age old question that has plagued the universe for centuries. What is in a name?

Goldust says that it must be very important because it is written in the stars.

Stardust says that it is a harmonic convergence and it is that convergence between Goldust and Stardust. A celestial entity unlike anything seen before.

Stardust leaves and Goldust wonders why he is leaving all the time.

Byron Saxton is with Roman Reigns in the interview area. He asks Roman about Triple H’s stipulation for the main event tonight for him. Roman says that Triple H will do what he has to do to protect his baby boy. He knows that Dean will be okay on his own. He will not do anything to jeopardize his spot in the main event at Battleground. He will go through Randy Orton, Kane, and John Cena. Roman says that he will be walking out of Battleground as the World Champion.

We take a look back at Daniel Bryan’s appearance on the Money in the Bank Kickoff Show and his interaction with Bo Dallas.

Bo Dallas says that we can all BOLIEVE that despite Daniel Bryan’s recent shortcomings, he is a very special little fellow. Bo says that he is going to win the Intercontinental Title at Battleground and dedicate it to Little Daniel. Our injured Superstars are proof that no matter how much you lose, you are still winning as long as you BOLIEVE.

Match Number Three: Bo Dallas versus Diego (with El Torito)

Diego with on Ole and Bo does the same only to have Diego drop kick Bo. Bo with kicks in the corner and the referee warns him. Bo with a short arm clothesline and then he connects with a knee drop to the head. Bo celebrates his accomplishments during the match. Bo with an Irish whip but Diego with a boot followed by a shoulder in the corner. Diego with a chop. Bo sends Diego to the apron and Diego goes for a head scissors but Bo pulls Diego to the mat. Bo sends Diego into the ring post and then he hits the BoDog for the three count.

Winner: Bo Dallas

After the match, Bo does his victory lap.

Bo tells the little fellow that he is a BOVINE. If one day, you want to grow taller, all you have to do is BOLIEVE.

Bo turns around and Torito gores Bo in the BOTTOCKS. Bo tells Torito no and Torito shimmies. Bo picks up Torito and press slams him.

Michael and John talk about the rumors about a returning Superstar. We see the footage of the return of Miz . . . and the person who everyone expected was coming back . . . Chris Jericho.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring.

Chris says for the first time in a year, he is back on Smackdown. To be in this ring in front of the thousands of Jericoholics and the millions watching at home, it feels good. To come back on Monday night as a surprise, it felt good.

Chris says along came a spider . . . a big, dark, venomous spider and his family. Chris says that he knows that the Wyatt Family has become one of the most dominant forces in WWE history and when they surrounded him in the ring, it was not going to be good. He got beaten down by all three and it did not feel good.

Chris tells the Wyatt Family ‘Thank you’. He wants to thank the Wyatts for remind him that it is not all about lighted jackets, music, surprise entrances, and Y2J chants. It is about survival and this ring is a dangerous place. Chris says that he can be a little dangerous. You have never worked with someone like him. He does not look like anyone else, he does not think like anyone else. He does not act like anybody else. That is why he is one of the best at what he does.

Wyatts, you can come to the ring and light a torch. You can rock in a chair. You can sing a song. You can do whatever you want to do. If you want to get crazy, Chris says that he can get crazy. If you want to get nuts, he can get nuts. He says that you will never be the same again.

Bray Wyatt appears on the TitanTron and says that the world does not have a voice to say what it needs. It is yearning for something to point it in the right direction. A savior, perhaps. He apologizes and he formally introduces himself. Bray tells Chris that he has a thousand faces and a million names. He is the color red in a world of black and white. If you value the ability to breathe, don’t get too close. Save us Chris . . . Save yourself.

Chris says that he has an idea for the Wyatts. He wants to get close to them. He tells them that they should come out from the dark . . .

Chris is interrupted by The Miz, who makes his way to the ring.

Miz asks Chris how does it feel. How does it feel to be interrupted? You deprived the live audience of something special on Monday night. Something they would remember forever . . . the return of the Miz. He says that it was a shame what happened to Chris. They could have fought side by side against the Wyatts, but Chris broke the golden rule. He tried to mess with the moneymaker.

Nothing happened, but if anything happens to the moneymaker . . . Miz enters the ring and he gets a Codebreaker.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Big E is in the Goldman Box. He says that he stands up for what is right. He stands up for his friend Kofi Kingston. He stands up against Cesaro to prove that he will win the Battle Royal at Battleground.

We see highlights of the match between Kofi Kingston and Cesaro from Raw when Kofi injured Cesaro with a thumb to the eye before the pinfall. We see Cesaro’s post match attack on Kofi.

Paul Heyman comes out and he introduces himself and he presents the next reigning, defending Intercontinental Champion . . . Cesaro.

Cesaro goes into the ring and he connects with a boot to the head. Cesaro throws Big E to the floor and then he tosses Big E into the ringside barrier. Cesaro runs Big E into the ringside barrier but Big E with an Irish whip into the ringside barrier and a clothesline. Big E sends Cesaro into Garcia Corner. Cesaro with a few chair shots to the back.

Cesaro with a biel that sends Big E over the announce table. Cesaro throws Big E into the ring steps. Cesaro tries to send Big E into the ring post but Big E stops Cesaro. Big E with an overhead belly-to-belly.

The straps come down and Heyman takes Cesaro up the ramp to stop this brawl.

AJ Lee skips in the back as we go to commercial.

We are back and Paige has joined Michael and John at the announce table.

Match Number Three: AJ Lee versus Eva Marie in a Non Title Match

Eva slaps AJ and pushes her to the mat. Eva with a pie face and then she runs into the ropes so AJ doesn’t do anything to her. Eva with a kick and she throws AJ to the floor. AJ gets back into the ring and Eva sends AJ into the turnbuckles. Eva with a clothesline and she gets a near fall. Eva with an Irish whip but she runs into a boot from AJ.

AJ with a sleeper and Eva tries for a side slam but she takes too long and AJ counters with the Black Widow and Eva Marie taps out.

Winner: AJ Lee

After the match, Paige enters the ring and she applauds AJ’s performance and she offers her hand to AJ. AJ shakes it and Paige continues to applaud AJ before leaving the ring.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Damien Sandow is in the ring and he is dressed like Bruce Springsteen. Sandow asks if anyone is alive out there.

Rusev’s music interrupts the man Born in the U.S.A. and Rusev waves his Russian flag while Lana follows behind on his way to the ring.

Sandow punches Rusev but Rusev pushes him away and then Rusev hits a jumping thrust kick before throwing Sandow over the top rope.

The crowd chants U.S.A.

Lana tells everyone to shut up. Today is America’s birthday. To celebrate your nation’s birth, you sing pointless songs and launch fireworks in the sky to boost the spirits of your worthless and pointless lives. The only impressive thing you do on July 4th is show the world how much fatter you get.

Perception is reality and your perception and reality is that no one can resist Mother Russia.

Jack Swagger’s music plays and Zeb Colter wants to educate the two Karl Marx loving socialists. Zeb says that there are two people he hates, illegal immigrants and ungrateful illegal immigrants. Lana, you can come out here and talk about our country, but he wants to educate her about the history between the US and Russia.

Who invented the internet? Not a Russian. Who invented the automobile? Not a Russian. Who put the first man on the moon? Not a Russian. The only thing that Russia invented that is worth a crap is vodka.

Lana tells Zeb to shut up. She calls him an American swine.

Swagger and Colter enter the ring and Zeb tells Lana not to tell him to shut up. He tells Lana to shut up. Did you forget their little chat on Monday night? He didn’t come here to chat. He came here to get something straight. They can get it straight right here, right now.

Zeb wants everyone to say ‘We The People’.

Swagger and Rusev stare each other down. Rusev goes out of the ring and Swagger makes sure to look at Rusev so he does not get a chance to attack him from behind.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Miz will face Chris Jericho on Raw.

Seth Rollins is at the announce table for the main event and he has his briefcase.

Match Number Four: Randy Orton versus Dean Ambrose

Ambrose punches Orton but Orton with a kick. Ambrose with a punch and he sends Orton into the corner. Ambrose runs his forearm across the bridge of the nose. Orton tries to send Ambrose into the turnbuckles but Ambrose blocks it. Ambrose punches Orton in the corner and the hits a short arm clothesline. Orton wrings the injured left arm and Orton goes to the floor.

Orton returns to the ring and Ambrose with a knee and punches. Ambrose puts Orton in the ropes and connects with a forearm and then Ambrose with a suplex attempt but his injured shoulder prevents him from getting Orton up and Orton with a drop kick for a near fall. Orton with a wrist lock but Ambrose with a single leg take down and then eh connects with boots to the midsection.

Ambrose traps the legs and he stretches Orton. Ambrose with a boot to the hand. Orton sends Ambrose into the turnbuckles and then Orton drops the injured arm on the top rope. Orton with an arm bar. Ambrose with punches but Orton with a head butt. Ambrose with a cross body and punches to Orton. Orton with a kick and Ambrose tries to bounce off the ropes but Orton with a boot to the shoulder and Ambrose goes to the floor.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Orton with a near fall. Orton continues to focus on the injured arm. Orton with an Irish whip but Ambrose with a boot and he goes up top. Ambrose goes for a missile drop kick but Orton swats him away and Orton gets a near fall. Orton with a hammer lock and he sends Ambrose into the ring post.

Orton with punches to the injured arm and then he kicks Ambrose in the ribs. Orton pulls Ambrose’s left shoulder into the ring post and then he hits a back drop driver onto the ringside barrier. Orton can only get a near fall when they return to the ring. Orton with a key lock and a knee to the midsection. Ambrose sends Orton shoulder first into the ring post. Ambrose tries to fix his shoulder using the mat. Ambrose with a series of punches.

Ambrose with a head butt and then Ambrose with running forearms and a shoulder into the corner followed by a forearm across the bridge of the nose. Orton with an Irish whip but Ambrose with an elbow and then he hits an elbow from the turnbuckles. Ambrose clotheslines Orton over the top rope to the floor. Ambrose with a suicide dive onto Orton and both men are down.

Ambrose sends Orton into the ringside barrier and then they return to the ring. Ambrose slides across the announce table and he clotheslines Rollins and punches Seth. Ambrose sends Seth into the ringside barrier.

Ambrose drops Orton on the top rope and he gets a near fall with a rollup. Orton with a kick and European uppercut but Ambrose bounces off the ropes and hits a clothesline. Ambrose goes for the Dean Driver but Orton sends Ambrose off the ropes and Orton with a power slam. Orton sets for the IEDDT but Ambrose gets to his feet and he back drops Orton over the top rope to the floor. Ambrose goes for another suicide dive but Rollins hits Ambrose in the shoulder with the briefcase as he goes through the ropes and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Dean Ambrose (by disqualification)

After the match, Orton brings Ambrose back into the ring and he hits an RKO. Rollins comes into the ring and they take off the bandage wrapped around the injured shoulder. Orton with an arm bar and Rollins goes up top.

Roman Reigns comes to the ring and he pushes Rollins off the turnbuckles and then he gives Orton a Superman punch.

Rollins pulls Orton away from the ring while Reigns checks on Ambrose and they stand tall in the ring as we go to credits.
