Report: WWE Wants Ronda Rousey vs. Stephanie McMahon For WrestleMania 32

Today’s Wrestling Observer Radio reported that WWE is planning a match between Stephanie McMahon and Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, Texas next year. There was speculation that Rousey and Stephanie could be involved in either a mixed tag team match or in the respective corners of Triple H and The Rock for a singles match between those two men, but the site reports WWE is now angling for a singles match.

The site also adds that WWE has wanted the match between the two since last year’s SummerSlam. It had been reported previously the UFC Women’s Champion was in line for some sort of appearance around that time but those plans were shelved for various reasons.

There would be some serious hurdles WWE would have to overcome if the match were to happen – the obvious one being UFC President Dana White’s approval for Rousey to work the event. That in itself would be challenging given Rousey is arguably UFC’s biggest star and an undefeated champion to boot, therefore any risk of injury to her would not go down well. White also recently emphasized Rousey’s appearance at WrestleMania 31 was a one time thing.

Here is what Meltzer had to say on the matter:

“The whole thing is it’s up to Dana (White) and her also, obviously, on whether she wants to do a match. Now, she has acted like she wants to do more. Everyone is saying it’s not in her contract for anything more, and she’s not under contract for anything more. But there is an understanding that she’s going to do ‘Mania next year. What I found out is that the idea is a singles match with Stephanie (McMahon) and not a mixed tag and not in the corners. It’s a singles match, that is the idea. … And it always was. This goes back to SummerSlam. They talked to her and she wanted to do it.”
