10 Retirement Matches For Goldberg Revealed

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is a pro wrestling legend. He had been the face of WCW for several years. He is currently a free agent. It has come to light that he and Vince McMahon agreed upon a proper retirement match for his career that was supposed to take place after his match with Roman Reigns at WWE Elimination Chamber 2022.

The Hall of Famer has spent the past six years in the company and captured the Universal Championship twice during that time. Goldberg recently called out WWE for failing to provide him with a proper retirement match. There also have been reports that Goldberg might join AEW, but WWE could always change their mind and resign him. It’s also a possibility WWE or AEW would let Goldberg use one of these stars at his own independent show. The 56-year-old has a lot of fans who would like to see him step inside the ring one last time. Here are some of the stars who could face the WCW legend in his retirement match.

#10 Brock Lesnar – WWE

Given their past history, Lesnar could be a great pick. They have crossed paths multiple times competing at two Wrestlemania shows, with their revisited feud between 2016 and 2017 being a big highlight. Given how storied their rivalry has been, it would certainly be a storytale ending to have Lesnar be the one to have Goldberg’s final WWE match.

#9 Wardlow – AEW

Wardlow has been a popular star who can certainly take a shot at Goldberg in the ring. Mr. Mayem’s Powerbomb Symphony could be enough to decimate the veteran star. Both men can put on a short yet entertaining match revolving around their finishing maneuvers. Wardlow could be the chosen one to retire the WWE Hall of Famer from pro wrestling once and for all. A win over the legendary star would instantly help Wardlow solidify his position as one of the top stars on the roster.

#8 Bobby Lashley – WWE

Goldberg and Lashley have went head-to-head in the past. They share one victory each. Their second match was a great outing and they might want to end the stalemate with the trilogy.

Lashley has been having a great run and being the one to end the career of a legend like Goldberg would be a deserved reward to his hard work.

#7 Gunther – WWE

Gunther is certainly one of the top stars of the company. He has been on a remarkable run as the WWE Intercontinental Champion. He has won matches against all of his opponents quite convincingly. The Ring General is slowly making his way to the top of the main roster.

When he drops the IC Title, the Imperium might go after Goldberg with a potential victory over the legend likely to put him on the path to greatness.

#6 Keith Lee – AEW

Keith Lee would be a challenging choice to face Goldberg in the ring. It would be an uphill task for the WCW legend go up against the powerhouse Keith Lee. The two heavyweights could try to outpower one another and it would be a sight to behold.

#5 Matt Riddle – WWE

The real-life beef between Matt Riddle and Goldberg is no secret. The backstage heat arising due to comments made by Riddle regarding the Hall of Famer grabbed the headlines in the past. Putting this into a storyline would be a treat for the fans. ‘The Original Bro’ recently made his return and a feud with such a huge star as Goldberg would elevate his position on the roster.

#4 Sting – AEW

Goldberg vs. Sting is a dream match for the fans but that could be turned into a reality. Though the age factor could come into play but a short match could fire up the fans. The two men have a rich history and were instrumental in the success of WCW back in the day.

The two WCW Icons have collided in some of the most memorable World Championship matches of the late 1990s. Not too long ago, Goldberg spoke highly of the face-painted star and admitted that Sting was a stalwart of WCW. It would be interesting to see if that match comes into fruition.

#3 Braun Strowman – WWE

Braun Strowman has been involved in tag team with Ricochet and has been away from the main event scene. He has experienced poor booking and decision-making that has slowed him down. WWE could push him again and a match with Goldberg always works best. A battle of heavyweights is something the fans might want to cheer for. They share the strength and power that could play a role in the potential match.

#2 Kevin Owens – WWE

WWE could try to book Kevin Owens to take on Goldberg in the future. KO is coming off a huge Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles win with Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 39. Though WWE might not involve Owens with Goldberg, ‘The Prizefighter’ remains to be a great pick storyline-wise.

Goldberg previously squashed Owens in less than a minute to win the Universal Championship for the first time, in a move which fans weren’t happy with. Getting his revenge and finally beating the person who ended his one and only world title reign would be a great way for Owens to gain momentum in the company.

#1 Roman Reigns – WWE

Roman Reigns and Goldberg were scheduled to face off for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemania 36. However, due to the pandemic, that match never materialized. At the time, Reigns was a bland babyface, and Goldberg had just controversially squashed The Fiend, so fans weren’t necessarily hyped for the showdown.

With Reigns now dominating as The Tribal Chief, he could be the one to lay Goldberg’s career to rest. This could be another memorable moment in his career as a heel.

We will have to see what WWE has planned for Goldberg’s sendoff match.
