83-Year Old Wrestler Hit With Bat

Pro wrestling is a tough industry to leave once you’re deeply involved, and some wrestlers, like Chris Jericho, don’t plan on retiring anytime soon. Many wrestlers continue their careers well into old age, with Sting recently choosing to retire and Dory Funk Jr. showing no signs of stopping. At 83 years old, Funk continues to demonstrate his resilience and commitment to the sport.

On August 24, FMW-E in Japan held an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Atsushi Onita and pay tribute to the late Terry Funk. The main event was a Double Hell Current Explosion Death Match featuring Dory Funk Jr. and Osamu Nishimura, who is currently battling cancer, against Atsushi Onita and Raijin Yaguchi. Despite his age, Funk displayed the same toughness that characterized his storied career.

During the match, Funk took a hit from an exploding bat, highlighting the extreme and hazardous nature of the bout. Nevertheless, he continued to fight with the determination that has made him a wrestling legend.

Dory Funk Jr. is renowned for his technical skill and significant contributions to professional wrestling. As the son of Dory Funk Sr. and the older brother of Terry Funk, he is part of a legendary wrestling family. Funk is best known for his impressive reign as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion from 1969 to 1973, one of the longest reigns in history.

Funk has been inducted into several wrestling halls of fame, including the WWE Hall of Fame, reflecting his lasting influence on the sport. Despite his age, Funk is not ready to retire, and it’s clear that he still has more to offer in the world of professional wrestling.
