House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) appeared on Fox Business to discuss calls for President Joe Biden’s impeachment, particularly in light of recent reports that Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) was preparing articles of impeachment related to Biden’s actions on Israel. The interview was conducted by Fox Business anchor Stuart Varney, who pressed Scalise on the grounds for impeachment and questioned whether Biden’s actions met the threshold of “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Scalise cited Biden’s approach to Israel as a reason for potential impeachment, emphasizing his perceived shift away from supporting Israel and toward appeasing the pro-Hamas wing of his party. He criticized Biden for “walking away” from Israel, despite it being the U.S.’s strongest ally in the Middle East. Scalise also suggested that Biden’s refusal to supply certain offensive weapons to Israel could be seen as turning his back on a key ally.
However, Varney continued to challenge Scalise, asking whether walking away from an ally could be considered a crime worthy of impeachment. Despite Scalise’s criticism of Biden’s stance on Israel, he clarified that current efforts are focused on drafting legislation to ensure that Biden delivers the aid required to support Israel, rather than pursuing impeachment. He acknowledged that the legislation aims to ensure that aid is provided to Israel to support its self-defense against Hamas and other threats.
SCALISE: Well, if you look at where we are, Stuart, I mean, President Biden is failing on so many different fronts. But if you look at Israel…what he’s done to Israel, walking away there if our strongest ally in the Middle East is disgraceful. You’ve got Democrats even admitting that. Our main objective is to get Israel the support they need to show that we stand with our ally, Israel, even if Joe Biden’s walking away because he is now trying to appease the pro-Hamas wing of his party.
VARNEY: But is it a high crime and misdemeanor to walk away from a big ally? Where’s the crime?
SCALISE: What we want to do is to get President Biden to actually deliver that aid. I mean, ultimately, Congress came together. Republicans and Democrats —
VARNEY: But, do you have to impeach him for that?
SCALISE: No. There’s legislation that we are drafting that actually requires him to the deliver the aid, because we want Israel to have the tools that they need to defend themselves. They were under attack —
VARNEY: Well, where does impeachment come into this?
SCALISE: Right now if you look at what we’re drafting, it’s legislation to require that he actually go and deliver the aid to Israel. And, again, Hamas, working with Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, went and invaded Israel on October 7th. They murdered, barbarically, Israelis. They still hold over 130 hostages, including American citizens. And Joe Biden is not concerned about releasing the hostages, he’s directing his attacks towards Israel, for goodness sake. He’s siding with the wing of his party that’s out there pulling down American flags on campuses and putting up the Palestinian flag, defacing George Washington’s statue on campuses. You know, you look at some of these radicals that are doing this, these anarchists that are doing this, that’s who Joe Biden is trying to appease, and he’s walking away from Israel in the process.
