Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and NBC’s Kristen Welker engaged in a heated exchange concerning President Joe Biden’s proposed suspension of arms shipments to Israel.
During a fiery confrontation on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday, Welker challenged Graham on his opposition to Biden’s threat to withhold arms from Israel, citing instances where former President Ronald Reagan employed similar tactics.
“President Biden isn’t the first to utilize arms shipments to influence Israeli policy,” Welker asserted. “Former President Ronald Reagan withheld weapons on multiple occasions to impact Israel’s military actions. Did Reagan demonstrate that leveraging U.S. military aid can effectively rein in and shape Israel’s policies?”
Graham countered, expressing concerns about the ramifications of restricting weapons delivery to Israel, a nation facing ongoing threats to its survival. He argued that such actions would only embolden adversaries like Iran and Hamas.
“Historians might question why it was acceptable for Reagan but not for Biden,” Welker interjected.
Graham responded passionately, drawing parallels to past controversial decisions made by the United States. He emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself and questioned the credibility of military officials suggesting otherwise.
