There has been a dispute regarding the contract of NXT star Adam Cole. Cole’s current WWE deal is due to expire the weekend of SummerSlam 2021 and therefore his final appearance for the company will be at NXT TakeOver 36.
It was initially believed that the contract of former NXT Champion would expire in early 2022 but Cole’s deal expired following NXT The Great American Bash last month. He had agreed upon a short-term extension and never renewed the contract.
Adam Cole could get a huge contract in AEW
Dave Meltzer recently addressed the situation of Cole on Wrestling Observer Radio and said that AEW can pay Cole far more money than NXT. Vince McMahon Fires Big Name For AEW Mistake?
Speaking to Matty Paddock of the DailyStar in an interview that took place in mid-July, AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker had commented on the possibility of her boyfriend joining her in AEW. She said that she wants Cole to be happy and it could be a great move for him to join Tony Khan’s company. She said:
“He has got to hold down the Tuesday night and I’ll hold down the Wednesday night, right?!” she joked. “I think it’s funny when people say, ‘he has to go to AEW because of Britt!’ because there are so many more people at AEW who have played a bigger role in the wrestling side of his life. People like The Young Bucks, Kenny [Omega]; he was in the Bullet Club for the majority of the Indie career people know him for. He has such a history in AEW that, if he came here, the storylines are endless – but he’s happy where he is. So, if he were to jump ship and come my way, that would be awesome, but if he stays in WWE forever then I’d be happy, too, as I just want him to be happy.”
We will see if Cole eventually inks a deal with AEW and finally finds his ‘happiness’.
