AEW and NXT stars react to Dynamite’s loss in ratings

Cody Rhodes AEW

This week was the first time NXT was able to beat AEW Dynamite in rating owing to the teased surprise appearances from main roster stars on the show.

The NXT Champion Adam Cole was the first to react to the news and during an interview with the Wrap, the Undisputed Era member said that it was an absolute blast:

“We’re just mainly focused on trying to put on a really exciting, cool show. And last night’s show was just an absolute blast, with the guys from ‘Raw,’ the guys from ‘SmackDown,’ the matches that happened, it was just a really, really cool night and so I’m glad so many people enjoyed it.”

Cody Rhodes was the first AEW star to react and when a fan asked him to comment on their loss, he said that ‘excuses are for a****les:

Though probably the most interesting reaction came from the Le Champion of AEW Chris Jericho who reminded everyone that it’s a marathon and not a sprint:

Lol why would that even happen? And who would really tune in to see this matchup for the 47th time? Soccer moms and little kids watching wrestling on a Wednesday just to see a Cena match? Give me a break. Cena is making movies, get your unrealistic dream match outta here lmao

  • StoneColdBeckyLynch

If they did that every week, it still wouldn’t work. They are trying to convey their brands as seperate. Remember last time they did that open door policy thing? WWE just makes no sense and feels lifeless. That’s the unfortunate truth.

  • Keith Learmonth

You’re probably right, honestly. The crossover audience between AEW and NXT seems pretty slim, probably because most people who care about either show, enjoy both.

  • Keith Learmonth

And it’s taken Chris Jericho to get AEW to where they are. What’s your point? Wrestling companies use outside help -all the time-.

  • Luke

But here’s the thing: they could do that every week if they wanted to.

AEW has a pretty thin roster and the only people who get decent promo time are Cody and Jericho.

WWE have an enormous (probably too big) roster at this point and they could advertise literally anybody they wanted for NXT at any time.

  • Luke

Just a quick one: If you advertised Cena vs HHH for NXT, that show would win in the ratings. By a mile.

  • Michael Justin Arnold

I get exactly what you’re saying. But the thing is, AEW didn’t really lose any viewers from the previous week. Its not like people switched what show they prefer, NXT just picked up some extra WWE casuals b/c of the advertised invasion.

  • Keith Learmonth

My point is that it’s stupid to use “They used talent from somewhere else though!” as an excuse. How is this going over people’s heads?

  • Keith Learmonth

WWE aren’t the ones using “Well they had guys from elsewhere, so it doesn’t count as a win” though, so that’s irrelevant, Becky.

  • StoneColdBeckyLynch

Its a short term thing. How many times can they actually do this and it will work? Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

  • Michael Justin Arnold

Home Grown talent? Since they’ve only been on for 6 weeks, who would you consider original to AEW?

Also what home grown “talent” does NXT have? All the stars came from elsewhere as well.

  • Keith Learmonth

I’d like to see AEW do a show with just their home grown talent. No help from wrestlers who made their name on a bigger show.

“Excuses are for assholes” – Cody.

  • Keith Learmonth

Ironically, Cody pretty much just called like, half his staff, and most of his fans assholes. So many of them are using the “But Raw and Smackdown people were there!” excuse.

  • JAckh45

    I don’t understand that excuse at all…
It’s like people are mad that NXT used assets available to them to put on a great show and all of a sudden people are calling them out for doing it… The product is WWE… why is it such a bad thing to have WWE talent appear on a WWE produced show?
How dare they! NXT are cheating! Thats the only reason!
    ^ just sounds so petty.
Both shows are pushing the game… why are people angry?!

  • Will Henderson

NXT only won this week cause it was a go-home show for Takerover: War Games as well as Survivor Series, plus WWE was promoting it as a “Open Door” episode meaning main roster talent were invading the show.
