AEW Dynamite Films Major Return In Japan

AEW are filming some Womens segments for Dynamite at the Ice Ribbon Dojo in Warabi, Japan, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, which features the return of Hikaru Shida.

”Hikaru Shida is in Japan right now producing – the Japanese side is gonna be filmed, it may have already been filmed, at the Ice Ribbon Dojo, and it’s a closed set so nobody knows what’s happening and stuff. But she’s over there, that’s why she hasn’t been on TV in several weeks because she had to quarantine for two weeks, now she’s there, so I’m guessing they’re doing it now.”

AEW are kicking off the Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament on Wednesday on Dynamite, with Thunder Rosa vs. Leyla Hirsch in a First Round match from the United States Bracket of the Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament.

Meltzer also said that Tony Khan told him there is ‘something cool’ planned for the Japanese Women’s side. AEW have been criticized at times for not putting enough time into the women’s division, with this tournament being an attempt to put more emphasis on it.

Certain characters like Britt Baker have gotten consistent TV time on Dynamite, yet the title has generally been held by women who don’t get as much character development or storylines.
