AEW New Star Rejected Signing With WWE

Jay White found himself in a unique position as his contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling  came to an end. The Switchblade had multiple options to consider, but it seems that he made a surprising decision this week on AEW Dynamite by making a surprise appearance on the show. However, there is a lot more to the story than what meets the eye.

According to Dave Meltzer during a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, it came as a surprise to him that Jay White ended up signing with AEW. Meltzer noted that White could have used AEW’s partnership with NJPW to go back to his former promotion, and even WWE had expressed interest in signing him. But ultimately, White decided to go with Tony Khan’s company.

“I’m surprised because if he’s with AEW, he could go back to New Japan in theory, but he lost those matches that said he couldn’t. WWE was after him. It was his choice between the two sides, and this was the side he chose,” Meltzer said.

White’s decision to sign with AEW is a feather in the cap of Tony Khan and his promotion. However, the question remains how AEW will utilize White’s talents. There are many options available for him in both AEW and ROH, but it will ultimately depend on how AEW decides to book him.

“I’m surprised because if he’s with AEW, he could go back to New Japan in theory, but he lost those matches that said he couldn’t.

“WWE was after him. It was his choice between the two sides, and this was the side he chose.

“It’s a feather in the cap of AEW and Tony Khan – he got the guy. That’s a good thing for AEW, now they have to use him the right way.”

Meanwhile, WWE is currently going through a period of transition and change. Vince McMahon has returned to a position of power, but it took his company merging with the UFC before that could happen. With the new Endeavor merger, there are still many unanswered questions about how WWE will move forward.

Jay White’s signing with AEW is a significant development for the promotion. He possesses a ton of potential and pro wrestling ability, and only time will tell how far he can go in AEW. It is clear that White had a choice between WWE and AEW and ultimately chose to sign with the latter. It will be interesting to see how AEW utilizes his skills and whether he will be a major player in the promotion moving forward.
