AJ Styles is certainly one of the top Superstars in the WWE roster ever since he made his debut back in 2016 at the Royal Rumble event. He is a two-time WWE Champion and won numerous other titles as well. The concept of the Forbidden Door has gained steam ever since AEW has brought it to light thanks to their partnership with Impact Wrestling and NJPW.
Cesaro was one of the most talented Superstars in all of WWE. However, he never got to win any major title in the company despite staying there for almost 10 years. In the end, Cesaro let his WWE contract expire and did not sign another contract, due to which he has officially left WWE.
AJ Styles recently signed a new contract with WWE, where he will be making $3 million a year, which puts him in the position as one of the most paid WWE Superstars in the company right now. However, Cesaro likely left the company as he did not receive an offer similar to what AJ Styles, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens got. That is very likely the reason why he decided it was time for him to go.
Cesaro also did not receive any offer from AEW yet either as revealed by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It was also revealed that AEW didn’t try to sign AJ Styles.
He also hadn’t gotten any backdoor AEW offer when he was negotiating so it wasn’t that he got a better offer elsewhere. That isn’t saying AEW may not make an offer now that he’s a free agent. Right now he’s he’s leaving the promotion unless something changes.
As best we can tell there were no AEW overtures with Styles. When AEW started, the idea was for the final angle on the first TV show to be Gallows & Anderson & Styles to come out with the Young Bucks & Omega and turn on them to start the first main event faction feud. But the impression we had at the time is Styles wasn’t that interested as he was making big money here and at the time nobody knew if AEW would make it, plus there’s the idea Styles is one of those guys who will get a job here after wrestling.
In other big AJ Styles news, it is being reported that All Elite Wrestling did not reach other to the ‘Phenomenal One’ prior to him signing his latest WWE offer. Dave Meltzer would state the following in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
“As best we can tell there were no AEW overtures with Styles. When AEW started, the idea was for the final angle on the first TV show to be Gallows & Anderson & Styles to come out with the Young Bucks & Omega and turn on them to start the first main event faction feud. But the impression we had at the time is Styles wasn’t that interested as he was making big money here [WWE] and at the time nobody knew if AEW would make it, plus there’s the idea Styles is one of those guys who will get a job here after wrestling.”
