AEW Star Quits Before WrestleMania 39

AEW and ROH star Brian Cage is seemingly planning to part his way with the company. He will reportedly see his contract expire this weekend and as it stands, he has not made up his mind on his future.

Brian Cage is reportedly leaving AEW

Cage’s status with the promotion has been speculated about for several months. AEW/ROH President Tony Khan extended Cage’s deal last year but he wasn’t being used often.

Since then, Cage has been used more on the ROH brand in addition to occasional AEW appearances. As previously reported, the two sides were in talks for a new deal.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Cage’s deal has expired. However, Cage has agreed to work ROH Supercard of Honor this Friday when The Embassy (Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona) defend their Six-Man Tag Team Titles against AR Fox, Blake Christian, and Metalik.

“Brian Cage apparently is finishing up. That’s what I hear, that he’s finishing up unless they sign him to a new deal. If they do, then he’s not finishing up. His deal has expired, but he’s agreed to do business and drop the belts on the way out if in fact he doesn’t sign. We’ll see how that turns out,” Meltzer stated.

Cage made his debut by winning the Casino Ladder Match at Double or Nothing 2020. He would go on to be a founding member of Team Taz, alongside Ricky Starks, and be gifted the FTW World Title soon after. However, he lost the title after being betrayed by Taz, Starks, and Powerhouse Hobbs a year later.
