Former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee recently did an interview with the New York Post to promote her new book Crazy Is My Superpower. During the interview the Post noted that Lee was once set to “take part in a series of goofy skits in which her character hallucinated, kissed a leprechaun and danced with dinosaurs from outer space.”
AJ stated that she turned down the angle because she and her mother both suffer from bipolar II disorder, and found the skits in poor taste:
“It was a joke, but, to me, it wasn’t something to laugh at,” Lee said.
She revealed that her refusal to participate is why the WWE kept her of WWE TV for the next couple of months. Lee hopes her story can help others like herself deal with their illness:
“It’s hard to not think you’re alone in the world so it’s good to connect with other people who’ve faced the same issues.”
