AJ Styles appeared on Talking Smack on Saturday on the WWE Network, which features Paul Heyman as co-host. Styles buried Heyman frequently as a liar last year after WWE fired his friends Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, as Heyman was Raw Executive Director at the time. Paul Heyman hinted at surprise Royal Rumble match entrants yesterday.
Styles and Heyman discussed the possibility of AJ winning the Royal Rumble and challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 37. Heyman brought up that Reigns beat Styles a couple of times on PPV in 2016 in WWE Championship matches.
AJ said, “That sounds good, doesn’t it Omos, but it’s my decision, and I will make that decision Monday, maybe, or Friday. Let’s just say I choose to go after the Universal Championship and I beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, and he’s no longer sitting at the head of the table, he’s no longer the alpha. What that means, ultimately, is that you would be out of a job, and nothing would make me happier than to see you out of a job. Yeah, that’d be great.”
Heyman also told Dayton 24/7 Now about Reigns’ Royal Rumble match with Kevin Owens, “By putting Kevin Owens down for a 10-count, where Kevin Owens can’t stand up at the end of a Last Man Standing match and therefore Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Heavyweight Championship and move on to WrestleMania.
Now, that’s not a disparaging comment about Kevin Owens, he’s a worthy #1 contender, he’s a very dangerous man and he is a very very dangerous fighter and he’s going to bring the fight to Roman Reigns. We’re not going to walk out of this unscathed. The champion is only as great as the challengers he puts down and Kevin Owens is as worthy of a challenger as there is in WWE but he will be put down this Sunday.”
