Backstage News on Mickie James’ WWE Return

As we reported, Mickie James will be returning to WWE for NXT TakeOver: Toronto to face current NXT Champion Asuka, however Bryan Alvarez noted on the Wrestling Observer Radio show that she may not have been WWE’s first option.

The company had intended to approach Trish Stratus to lock down some plans for this year and 2017, however her recent announcement of a second child means it’s likely attentions have now been turned to Mickie James. The implication is that Stratus was the company’s first choice.

In terms of Mickie James’ return, it is expected that she could work more dates and may also work at the WWE Performance Center later on.

Joe wrestled just one match for WWE proper. On March 3, 2001, on an episode of Jakked, Joe stepped in front of the cameras to face Rios.

The bout was meant to showcase Rios. The high-flyer was the established wrestler of the two; Joe was to be his patsy.

Samoa Joe, has wrestled in the WWE, before now. I gave the date and opponent.

  • Leo Erskine

Actually it was February 26, 2001 and yes it was his first match. Didn’t you state while in the WWE. Samoa Joe, was also never in the WWE.

  • Kristopher Robinson

he only wrestled one match lol. March 3, 2001, against essay rios. I don’t think that qualifies sir, “as WWE style experience”.

  • Leo Erskine

I have to disagree with you Samoa Joe started with WWE he was a Jobber at the time look up Samoa Joe Verlocity.

  • Kristopher Robinson

Yes, but Mickie, was at a high level for the women’s division, while in the WWE. Samoa Joe, was also never in the WWE and from what I have always read, the WWE has a certain style. This has been explained by; Styles, Mysterio, Del Rio, Balor, etc. Seeing as how, Mickie is used to this style, I don’t see why she would need to be in NXT. But with a lot of NXT’s best talent being on the main roster, I could see why they may need a name like James.

    Come on trish 🙁

Goes with the territory. Old schoolers in the developmental territory. Look at Samoa Joe, Rhino and a few others. Same thing, just not high enough caliber to be the ROCK.

  • Kristopher Robinson

Now this is just my opinion, but, i think Trish is/was to big for NXT. I feel like that would be like, having The Rock wrestle, in NXT.
