Backstage news on original plans for Mae Young Classic finals

As we reported before, Kairi Sane beat Shayna Baszler this past Tuesday night to become the winner of the inaugural Mae Young Classic Tournament; however, it appears that the original plans for the finals were very different.

According to a report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Toni Storm was originally supposed to compete Sane in the finals instead of Baszler.

However, when the company decided to do an angle between UFC and WWE’s four horsewomen, they decided to put Shayna in the finals and do the match between Storm and Kairi at the semi finals.

Although the company has now decided to save this angle for a later date and it’s the possible reason why they avoided a confrontation between the two groups of Horsewomen the this week.

It’s worth mentioning here that Kairi Sane will now challenge for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship at the upcoming NXT Takeover: Houston event.

It’s not confirmed currently who will be the opponent of the Japanese wrestling star though according to report from Pro Wrestling Sheet, it will be a multi women match rather than a one on one bout.
