Backstage Update on plans for Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews has been featured a whole lot more on Raw as of late. The past couple weeks have seen Crews hang tough with Elias and Dolph Ziggler in close matches that ultimately saw Apollo fall short.

However, this week on Raw, Crews defeated Jinder Mahal in one-on-one action fairly easily, and it has lead to speculation that creative may have something in store for one of the more athletic superstars in the entire company.

Dave Meltzer revealed as much on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, stating that WWE does have something new in mind for Crews. The company wants to make Apollo Raw’s “Highlight Reel” based off of his unbelievable athleticism and impressive move-set.

In a promo before his match with Mahal, Crews talked about his expectations since leaving Titus Worldwide, and stated that he understands he’s had more moral victories than actual victories since being called up from NXT in April of 2016. However, with the company’s new attitude towards Apollo, he may start racking up real victories to close out the year, which could lead to a surprise 2019 for Raw’s “Highlight Reel”.

I’ll enjoy fast forwarding his matches.

Big guys shouldn’t be doing things like 450s just like guys the size of Hurricane shouldn’t be doing choke slams. If he wants to do a 450 off the top, I would be okay with that because there’s more impact from higher heights and being a bigger guy, that would be more force coming down. His finish on Raw didn’t look credible.

There are multiple guys on the roster doing that stuff. There aren’t any big guys doing what Crews can do.

Do not get me wrong, I do not dislike him and he is talented, I just think WWE has the mentality these days that if someone does not get over initially, they give up on them after only a couple of weeks. Creative have the attention span of a gnat, so the only way Crews will get over is if he really comes out of himself and makes them take notice during this push.

He might just turn into another version of Titus out of nowhere, which will in turn lead to Titus leaving the company… maybe even after a final match with Crews. Who knows.

Let’s just give the Brother a chance. WWE is probably gonna mess it up, anyway.

The problem with Crews he still does not have a particularly interesting personality or gimmick.
In many respects he comes across as a less powerful Bobby Lashley, and in fact due to his look was pretty much compared to him from day one, which considering how poor Lashley has looked since returning, that is doing him no favours.
His time in Titus Worldwide was probably his most interesting era and even that was all about Titus, not him.

He really needs to find some kind of unique personality to get him anywhere as fans do not give a damn about him, and WWE creative loses interest in him within about five mins of pushing him.

Apollo has a good look, but I don’t want to see someone his size doing standing moonsualts and 450s. I want to see power moves, big slams, suplexes, powerbombs, etc.
