Backstage WWE push might change WrestleMania plans

WrestleMania 36 will be taking place over two days on April 4th and 5th. They will be filming the event on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The company is still deciding what to do regarding the main events.

Reports suggested that WWE was considering making Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler as the main event of the show of shows. According to Fightful Select, there is a lot of “back and forth” going on regarding the main event scene. It seems there is a push for Roman Reigns vs Goldberg to end the show.

At one point, Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler was set to main event night one. However, there is word there was a push for Reigns and Goldberg to be in that spot.

WWE still has room for discussion. Due to the company taping WrestleMania beforehand, it was noted that “they can make about anything happen with the way they’re filming it.”

Brock Lesnar vs Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title was not mentioned, which could imply that it is already set to be the main event for one of the days.

In theory both nights should be represented by their top championships, and regardless of how much WWE wants people to accept the womens belts as equal to the mens, the WWE and Universal titles are still above the womens divisions in the pecking order. They will need a lot more years of building the womens division up and a more expansive roster before it can be equal to the mens main titles.

And regardless of how people feel about Reigns vs Goldberg, Goldberg is still a bigger draw than Baszler or Lynch, despite their popularity.

There is no way Lesnar vs McIntyre will not headline one of the nights. That is pretty much a given considering the whole Royal Rumble thing between them. Charlotte may have won the womens Rumble, but that is for the NXT womens title and they are not gonna put that as a headlining match.
